Construction on new NY Yankee Stadium

I was recently talking to a friend about this. It's going to be a sad day when the orginal House That Ruth Built gets torn down.

So nobody likes New Jersey except for elite sports franchises, or is it New York is just running out of real estate?

That will make Fenway Park and Wrigley Field as the only 2 major league baseball stadiums remaining built before the 60's.

We're really close . . . Dodger Stadium was finished in 1962 . . . with planning and building considered, we would make it.

Don't get too sentimental. It's hardly "the original house that Ruth built".
It's Ruth's house in name only. Remember, they shut it down in the early 70's and rebuilt it. When it reopened, it was a different place.

Dodger Stadium is going to last longer than any of the other 60's and 70's stadiums. They take really good care of it and it doesn't suffer through the harsh weather extremes that most other stadiums do. Shea was opened in 1964 I believe - and it's on its last days. Most, if not all, of the multiuse concrete doughnuts built in the 70's are now gone. Anaheim (Edison Field - or is it just Angels Stadium now?) and Kauffman in Kansas City should be around a while too. They need to get baseball out of Dolphins Stadium too - but the only way this is probably going to happen is the Marlins move or fold. RFK in DC is only a temporary home for the Nationals.

Wiseass! The term "The House That Ruth Built" is also used for the current stadium. The stadium sits on the original lansdsite as the one built in 1923. The new stadium will be in a different location.
