web cam at work.
web cam at work.
Last month I was moved to a site as a concrete structural superintendant, at a Canadian government job at CBC ( radio and T.V.) in Vancouver. Today I find out that there is a web cam on the library roof across the street. The web cam is posted on their web site. I have mixed feelings about this. Interisting but a little invasive.
What do you all think about this?

We have seevral around here,
One of the lakes near my house has like 5 that I know of on the water, scared to do anything there for fear of getting caught on video.

In tomorrows morning meeting I will bring it up, see how the others feel about it. The excavation contractor's foreman had a call from his boss wondering why one of the mini excavators was at the ramp and not working.
He was not impressed. It was due for scheduled maintance so was at street level waiting for the mechanic.

What does this . . .
have to do with this . . .
Oh . . . wait . . . I see . . .
So it's not really an invasion of privacy issue, it's that you don't like your work being monitored by the man . . .
OK . . . carry on.

What's the url for this camera? We want to watch you work too.
At our shop the service manager's office is upstairs and he has a window next to his desk that looks out over the shop floor. Not very high tech but pretty much the same thing. When the shop doors are open the general public can also see us from the car wash across the street. Still not high tech but same thing. Call customer service for almost anything and the calls are usually taped for monitering.
So what exactly is your concern? Web cams and security cams are everywhere. If it's just a streaming web cam it's probably not even being recorded. Did the boss that called say he saw the excavator on the webcam or did he just drive by and see it?
You could try wearing one of these

What if I'm working on the roof and the porta-potty is all the down in the parking lot?
Normally, it would be business as usual, then later a story about the biggest pigeon I ever saw.
A webcam makes it risky business.

Apparently I have not clearly conveyed the size of this pigeon I'm talking about.

when we are watching a concrete pour or an excavation being dug, we now make sure we move every several minutes.

just think how easy it would be to watch and count your goats. Just get a cell phone for your dog and tell him what and where to go.
What I would like to see is a wireless webcam on every Public Works truck. Maybe then we could get roads repaired on schedule and on budget instead of having one man in a hole digging and six supervisors standing around scratching their gonads.
