Pellet Stoves

Does anyone here use a pellet stove?, If so how do they work and are they worth it. I want to get one a friend has one and swears by it. Pellets are a renewable resource and propane around here has gone through the roof.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

I dont know about Pellet Stoves, but Wood Burning Stoves are nice.

It depends on the size of the room your wanting to heat and the size of the stove.

My grandparents used a Wood Burning Stove in the family room and kitchen area, and it heated those 2 rooms fine, but they were fairly small. They work perfect in small rooms.

Ive got a wood burning one in the basement and it is great. Keeps the entire basement warm, sometimes even too hot, when its -40. The furnace is completely useless downstairs, the wood burner even helps with the main floor heat.

Hi all this is my first post, glad to be here. We love our pellet stove, this has been the first winter with it and it has been great. We had a wood stove for about 10 years and I would not go back to one if you gave it to me. The pellet stove is very clean and also much safer than a wood stove no chimney fires. And one of the best parts is you don't have to tend the fire it takes care of itself once or twice a day you dump in a bag of pellets. We have a harman stove very nice stove .Jeff

Every single person I know that has one swears by them. I'll admit they do feel just as warm and comfy as any log burner, I'm just not ready to give up my logs yet. I like a big roaring/crackeling fire in the fire box. The sound and light help the room feel warmer and for me I can't baat the cost.

this is my second pellet stove a whitfield, lost my first one, a jamestown in a flood. they are sweet as long as the power stays on. a 40# bag of pellets in baltimore are running a bit high this year, bout $5.40-$5.70 each. if I had to do it all over again I would have a coal stove, no electric to run it.

I know wood is a pain---cutting and splitting and stacking---but mine is free. I paid maybe $125 in gas this year to tow trailers full of firewood. Pellets, though, are easier to operate, though.

I figure 3-4 tons should be enough. it works great and the heat it creates is amasing

We have one at my camp, does a nice job! The only thing I would recommend is like the other folks said, buy ALOT of pellets in bulk, before winter to beat the high prices.

The only downside to the stove I think is the blower motor. About as loud as one from a electric space heater, but kinda noisy if you just wanna crack a beer and relax infront of the fire.

we've got a LOPI wood burner- that baby heats our 5,300 sf in no time- burns clean and looks cool too- we put a blower on it this fall and it will heat the house about twice as fast as before. family of 5, we go through about a cord per year [very efficient stove]
