Let me tell you my story it should help.....

I walked in, sat down, flirted with the nurse a little bit while she was preping me. Then she pulled out teh syringe of teh good stuff. I'l ladmit I'm not the least bit scared of needles or syringes but that thing was frankenstien meets physco dentist horror movie looking...... But I knew the good times came with that thing, so I sat back and stared at a picture on teh wall in front of me.... It was a nice scene of some mountains.
In my perephial (sp?) vision I could see her injecting the good stuff. After teh second huge syringe full she said alright count backwards from 100.... I stared at teh mountain scene and started to count.....
100......99..........98............ (at this point the mountinas started to look like breast.) ...... 97.....................9..6................... Now the room is full of floating brestes! I don't remember counting anymore but I was suddenly in boob land... I was walking on rolling hills of big beautiful breasts. Women with big beautiful breast everywhere. Next thing I know the nurse is waking me up and they are done. Seemed like 20 seconds. She is walking me down to the recovery room and they go get my wife from the waiting room. Apparently my wife came up behind us and I was playing with the nurses butt as we were walking and asking here to send me a drum of that stuff to the house!........ I have no recollection of any of that part! That's just what I have been told..... (Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!)
I want this experience

I don't use anethesia during my fillings because for me the temporary pain isn't worth being numb for 6-8 hours..... I walk in, they do thier thing, I walk out and everything is perfectly normal again.
Accept last time....... I dont know if I jerked or he did but someone did and I ended up with a hole the size of my thumb in the flesh under my tongue from a course grinder. That was sore for a couple of days.

The stories are always worse then the actual procedure and your mind makes it even worse. I had mine out about 2 years ago, all 4, no anesthetic. They just shot me full of industrial strength Novocaine, let me sit for about 20 minutes, and when the dentist could poke my gums with a pointy little tool and I didn't feel it then out they came.

The IV isn't that bad, because of a heart condition that runs in my family, I get yearly CT scans. The aim is to catch the problem while it's small (if I develop it at all) and it can be fixed before it becomes life threatening. They hook up the IV and run dye through my system that lets the specialist take nice bright fluorescent pics of my innards. The needle is no worse then if you were to poke your arm with a toothpick.

Allowing yourself to be put under will be the most unnerving part. Your giving control over to the "professionals" that will be responsible for your wellbeing until you wake up. Don't sweat it, once it's done you'll look back on it and wonder what you were so concerned (afraid? ) of.

I missed thanksgivings dinner to it....talk about depressing. I had to eat mash potatoes while everyone else was feasting.

Damn!

If I knew I'd be seeing a bunch of tiddiez, and could have felt the dental assistants up as I left the office, I'd have gotten the IV.

They had some FINE assistants in that office, I'd like to have "unwittingly" groped...

Probably why their prices are so high. Ever girl in that damn office, could play on Baywatch...

That's great!

I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth out at the same time. It's no big deal. You'll be fine.

I'm not worried about the swelling and pain afterward, or the blood and junk.

The IV in my hand is what really has me worked up. I have irrational fears about open water due to Jaws and vein piercing needles. I can take a shot but cant give blood.

Not to mention I've never been knocked out before and the warning about permanent jaw numbness or death ain't great either.

10:30 tomorrow morning, Vader will be crying like a little girl on the inside.

I'm a sissy I know..
Don't worry. I had all four pulled at once when I was about 21 . . . yup, back in the days before anesthesia . . . but seriously, these days only one if 6 die from this surgery . . . . JK

Speaking of the IV in the hand thing . . . back in December I ended up in the hospital due to some weird viral thing and almost went into cardiac arrest . . . went into emergency room then was admitted (and my damn insurance is refusing to pay but that's another story) . . .

anyway, got the IV in the hand thing in my house by the paramedics and the guy wasn't all that good at it . . . then after they admitted me to the ER, got a second one . . . then when admitted into a room when I got into the bed the damn thing got pulled out so the nurse tired to put it back in and couldn't get it to stay (that really hurt), so he went for the other hand and only did a slightly better job than his first attempt . . . so that was four in the span of 6 hours, plus one in the arm.

So fear not . . . it could be worse. :santa:

I went in to get all 4 done together I was 19. Asked the doctor what they were going to use to put me under. He said "we don't do that in this office." I got freaked out and almost left. He injected me with novacaine and let me sit for a while. When he got started he put the nitrous on me and I remember feeling like I was floating off the bench.
It took maybe 60 minutes to do. My mom took me home about 11:00am. I slept for 24 hours only waking to take medicine. Then I ate a little bit and went to a club that night.
After all the horror stories I had heard I was scared, but it was no big deal.

your story sounds like a breeze compared to mine, when I got to the ER (I have lyme disease and one of the many symptoms is small/restricted veins due to hypercoagulation) so it took 3 nurses to get an IV in me, it took them 10 sticks and they were all working at the same time for about 2 hours straight to get an IV started worst 2 hours of my life!

I had mine pulled by the Navy dentist during the 1st Gulf War. No general, just local anesthesia (novacaine). She did a good job numbing the jaw, but the procedure was physically difficult, making me wish I had been put under. It was like pulling small trees out of the ground - they don't come out easy. However, the worst part was the dry socket - I was at sea when it struck. The ship's doc found a sesame seed from a hamburger in the hole, which caused the problem. Worst pain I can remember - EVER. I'd rather endure 100 IV's simultaneously than suffer another case of dry socket. FOLLOW THE POST OP INSTRUCTIONS!!!
