Does anyone in here think Ford might disappear in the near future? I mean they have all of these brands. Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Jaguar, Volvo, Mazda, Land Rover, and Aston Martin. Now with all of those brands and they are loosing million or was it billions of dollars, now is that worldwide or just the US market, I seriously doubt they are loosing that much money if they were where and how are they keeping afloat?????
Ford Profits
Right now FORD MOTOR COMPANY is making much of any profit from it's Truck Division, The FORD CVPI, sold to much of the nations Police Depts, & the ever popular Mustang. Other than that, I don't know how they do it, however I seriously doubt that you will never see the total demise of either FORD or GM, just some serious trimming off of the Corporate Fat.
They sold the majority of their controlling portion, but I believe they kept 11% of it.
As for them going away? No, it isn't going to happen. Despite the fact some people on these forums would love to see the demise of Ford, or anything 'American' for that matter...

Ford consistently calls early ( at the date allowed ) bonds that cost them too much ( rates drop, and the credit rating of the company allows them to borrow money cheaper ).
They have the manufacturing process costs down. I don't think Ford is in trouble with the pension like GM is. They don't have the huge population from days gone by on the payrolls ( GM has 2.5x the pensioners I think ).
Already been said, but they make a profit, not just on 1 line.
You might want to find a newer article.
Mercury was End of Life'd so they could focus on Lincoln. Ford wants to go head to head with Cadi & higher ends if they can ( think the main target was Lexus ).
Volvo was sold to a company in China last year, about Q3CY2010 I think
Land Rover and Jaguar have been gone for some time, think 2008. Company in India bought them.
Aston Martin I think was sold before Land Rover & Jaguar, don't even know if they hold any part of it anymore.
Mazda they never owned outright, that was a controlling interest in the company ( largest shareholder, don't think it was more than 50% ). This was to be sold, I think it went through but I cannot recall right now.
Even though they sold these brands at a loss from what they paid for them in the late 90s early 00's, the money they got from the deal, the new chief used to restructure the long term debit, which ave them a better credit rating ( again back to being able to call in higher cost bonds, and reissue lowered rates on new ones ).
2010 Ford posted the largest profit margin ( as a company ) in 8 or 9 years..
This reporting was in the back ground as GM & Chrysler were grabbing all the headlines in this area along with banks ( they sky was falling ). I think when GM went hat in hand to the government for the 1st loan, Ford posted a $ 1B profit in that quarter. Ford was at the congressional hearings in "support" of GM & C. Personally I think he was showing off
Speaking of though.... You could go to www.ford.com years ago and it was for all the FoMoCo brands. If you wanted actual Ford vehicles, you needed to go to www.fordvehicles.com Now, however, you go to www.ford.com and it takes you directly to Ford vehicles. I guess Lincoln has its own website that you can not get to from Ford's website. Its a shame they don't have as much market presence anymore, but obviously selling off all of those other brands was the right move. Present day...Ford is doing great...compared to others.
