after you turn on your computer and it comes up to the XP login screen push Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice to gain access to the Administrator login, it most likely doesn't have a password on it, if that works reset your and your wife's passwords, if it doesn't you should try re-installing Windows XP

Passwords and administrator accounts have nothing to do with it.

If you purchased it new, then you have a Certificate of Authenticity. It will have your license string on it. You'll have to register with MS to get rid of that message. click on the goofy icon in the system tray (lower right) to get more information on that message.

If you don't have the cert of auth or purchased the computer second hand odds are your license key was already registered with MS, or is on their blacklist for fraud (keygen program used, etc...).

Good luck partner!

It should just be a timer... then let you login and will harass you forever until you either vailidate your copy or pony up cash.

Did you ever get the PC worked on? New hard drive, reformatted, etc..>?

Umm no the 50 cal is for fun shooting at long long distances. I hunt with a 7mm browning or my ole .30 .30 lever. at times with a 12 Gauge remington 1100 semi.

PC is still not working it just won't let me do anything past the log on screen.

Seems like I had that problem a long time ago. If I remember I did CTRL ALT DELETE and was able to log in that way. Was a long time ago so I'm kinda fuzzy about it. But I do remember having the same problem. I could get to the log on screen where my wife, son and me were ready for a password but couldn't get it to take the passwords. Might try it, but there are more people in the know around here that will probably give you better advice. Come to think about I believe it was before SP2 and I had to be the computer administrator. Good luck

Sooooooo... what is the EXACT error on the screen? Word for word. I'm still guessing its a bad license.

You can give the alt-ctrl-del a whirl, but your still gonna need to validate your license.

Here is what is reads after i attempt to log in using control alt delete or just logging in. the following screen appears

windows product activation screen

It reads A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer error code 0x80090006.

D how could the license be bad i have the product key tag for windows right on the pc

Prolly some windows auto update hosed you up! You need to get back to a restore point. Then turn off windows auto update.

Ahhhh buck, your just like my users. Describe a problem, give vague info and finally when the specifics are beat outta you the right answer is revealed! LOL...
