Small Towns
I am a small town kid born and raised. When I was a we young lad my mom got a call from the bus driver and said that I was playing on the rail road tracks. It turned out that it was just another kid with the same coat as me. I love living in the small town but we are only 15 mins from the city so know we are starting to become just a bedroom community and its ****in gay how all these suburban families are moving out here just to live and don't give any thing back to the community. Its only about 1500 people my town
So true, except for #6, because there is only one cop, and he's only patroling around town about 10% of the time, the other time he is at the bar or in a different town, and #22...no stop lights. There are probably 10ish stop signs in the town.
'"my" town has a population of 420, its probably less now, thats just the last number I recall. I actually live 20 miles from there. The next closest town, 20 miles in the opposite direction, has a population of 138.
As much as I hate it, I love it. I was in Lincoln the last part of this week and I was going CRAZY. To many people lol.
I guess #4 isnt true either. We drag on 45B north outta town. Start at the bridge about 1/8th of a mile out, and go till we get to a certian lane; pretty close to a 1/4 mile run

Lol we have a track marked out that has 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 mile markings and the "track" is about 2 miles straight north of town
we had the 1/4 painted on the highway west of town, no lights though, we did the 'pinks' thing after we staged and did our burnouts

Thats funny about the cop with the signs. Ours usually watches for things and after a few weeks he will pull you over for something, then talk to you about what you just got pulled over for, plus all the other things he's seen you do over the past few weeks. He's lazy like that

Yeah, there used to be a bit of a drug problem in our town, really nothing goes on with that stuff anymore.
We just all like to drink
I grew up in a small agricultural town a levee away from the mighty Mississippi River. Waterproof, Louisiana 71375. On emore than one occasion, old muddy has left from her banks, which sits about 1/2 mile back from the river, and crawled just about to the top of that Levee, which is about 25 - 30 feet high. As kids, we, and maybe even the adults, did know how much danger we were in when the river was would climb that high after the spring melt from up north.
The town has steadily shrank since all the jobs, and all the money are slowly dying off.
When I was a youngster, we had about 1,800 people. By the time I graduated in 1987, we were down to about 1,300...
At the last census (2000), I think the town was down to 880 +/- people. There are very few jobs in town. It's a farm town. Boxed in on the North, West and South by huge farms, and to the East by the Mississippi River. Landlocked, the parish (county) is dying. Nothing can move in there because all the wealth and land is held by a very few. They aren't about to give up their land, so- the town, and the county is suffocating.
If Texas is a part of the Bible belt, then Waterproof must be the buckle. In a town of 1,800 (Highest I can remember), we had no less than 11 churches. If you count the ones around the town, add another 4 or 5 to that. What we had in abundance were churches and gas stations. We had a few stores in town, a few Mom & Pops, and two chains- Western Auto and Dollar General Store.
The closest big towns are Natchez, MS (32 miles), Vicksburg, MS (64 miles). I still love Waterproof. Unlike some of my peers, I don't try to claim Monrow, Baton Rouge, or any other town. Waterproof is home. Although it always gets a bunch of laughs, I proudly tell people where I'm from... It usually goes like this...
Them: So, where are you from Hersh?
Me: Waterproof, Louisiana.
Them:Waterproof, <snicker>. Did you say Waterproof? <hahahaha>
Me: That's right. Waterproof, Louisiana. About 120 miles southeast of Monroe, LA. No too far from Natchez, MS.
Them:Hey _______, come over here. Guess where Hersh is from?
Them:Waterproof, Louisiana.
Both together: Hahahahaha
Them:What, it doesn't rain there? Hahahahaha

Let them laugh. It's home- what can I say. I love the town, I love the people. I just hate to see it dying... One day, without devine intervention, it will be a ghost town.
Waterproof, LA
Small towns? I love them...
But, now that I'm a city boy, used to all the conveniences of city-life, and the speed, I cannot move back to the country... I can visit, but, I can't move back.

That cop just doesnt really care, hes more concerned with the drugs that have been spreading out from the city. Almost every town I know has been having a growing problem with them. Mostly crack and meth.
Ever since people who have been living in cities for generations started moving out to the surrounding towns, they just have not been the same. I used to be able to go and visit my grandma, aunts, and uncles and leave the truck running outside the store or bank and not think about it.
