Help needed aligning Satellite TV

Ok we have Direct TV and I am missing 4 HD channels that I gather are on sat119.We live in an area with a lot of trees so I have a small area to shoot through.Has anyone had any experience with this.I am looking at getting a signal strength meter any recommendations. The guys they send from Direct are not much help as they just want to leave as soon as they can.I am picking up 101 and 110 just fine but not 119.The dish is a new 5LNB deal which has 4 cables coming out of it how do I know which one for each satellite.Any ideas would be appreciated.Thanks.

Quite some years ago, I had Direct tv and I remember it had a built in signal meter. We'd have someone adjusting the dish while someone else was looking at the meter on the tv. Has that changed?

Budha is right ( I know, its hard to believe but he is ) get the installation book out and read thru the dish setup. It will show you how to access the signal strength meter on your tv so you can adjust the dish. Just so you know, mine is working fine right now and I have nothing on Ch 119

Yes you are right with the signal strength meter on the TV,it is just a pain in the butt when you are on your own and up a tall ladder.Thought there might be a cheap meter that might make the job easier.

Yeah, being on your own that might not help.....try to google for satellite signal finder.

I was able to find this one for $24 I don't know how good any of these kits would work, but it's a start.

Brew, He's referring to Sat 119. There are 3 different birds up there. #119 happens to host the HD signals

One man operation.....

Open window on house

then on your reciver go to

Menu > settings > setup > satellite > View Signal Strength > Signal Meters

Select satellite 119, turn your volume up
Climb on roof and adjust your dish while listening to the metter.......

Option 2 and 3......

Baby monitor or walkie talkies......

in the menu there is a place you can put you zip code and it will tell you were to set the up and down and the tilt (or a goo place to start. make sure you get good signal on all 3 sats 101 110 119. the better you get the signal the less rain will take it out. good luck and let us know how it works out and how high you get the signal.on a clear day mine is about 97%

I will give it a go this weekend when the wife is around,at the moment our signal strength is in the 70's on 101 and 110.119 is non existent at the moment due to some trees in the back yard. Before they put in the 5 LNB though we had all 3 sats but they did move the dish about 5 feet over. Thanks for the help.

Last one I did here in MD was a little tricky...azimuth and elevation were spot on to what Directv said...the tilt however was a bit off (can't remember the exact number). I had the same problem, I could get the 101 and 110 or the 110 and the 119, but not all three...if you tilt the dish a little more to the horizontal side you should start getting all three.. Azimuth alone won't do it.

Good luck,
Craig

Just remember moving the dish a 1/4" in any direction here, is moving it like 2 miles up there.
