"Is it more important to the U.S. economy for someone to buy a Ford Fusion, although it's built in Mexico, from a company that employs 105,000 Americans," Doyle asks, "than a Honda built in Ohio from a company that employs 27,000?
Most people buy what they consider the best deal regardless of brand. Why does it take 4 times more people to assemble a Ford? Domestics can't start building better cars and expect huge sales increases overnight. It has taken Toyota and Honda many years to get their reputation and domestics many years to lose theirs. Build something bullit proof and people will come back. Where would our market be and what kind of crap would we be buying without the competition?

It doesn't take 4 times more. The point is there are a lot more jobs than just assemblers. Designers, draftsman, diemakers, etc, etc, etc. On a Toyota or Honda, those jobs are not in the US. They are in Japan. Same with upper management and many other behind the scenes jobs that have nothing to do with assembly of vehicles, but are needed for the manufacturing process.
Assembly is the end process, far from being anywhere near all of it.

It doesn't.
They are using the term 'employs' generically and are referring to the residual jobs that exist and where they exist because that particular type of vehicle exists.

I hate it when some so called expert writes something that is wrong or misleading and he knows it but wants to make a point, or otherwise he is just stupid. The problem is that too many people believe that if it is written it has to be true and they do not question it. When I see thiongs like what you guys pointed out, I makes me question the rest of what the person had to say. Maybe most of what he had to sayis true , but now, I don't know. What was his agenda? But, as I said too many read and just accecpt.

I figure what difference does it make if the vehicles are made in Mexico, all the Mexicans are trying to sneak in here anyhow. Let them bring out money back.
