Vista internet connection question...

Okay, still struggling with Vista...

My wife came into work with me today. We have dial-up at home for now, so she wanted to do some work with the faster connection (cable modem) while I was here...

Well, when I try to connect the only option I'm given is connect to broadban WITH a user ID and password. Is there no way around this? I never had to have that info for XP...

I'm starting to dislike this Vista booger...

Doesn't sound like Vista.

I assume you've plugged the network cable into the laptop.

If that is the case perhaps IE is just trying to dial the dialup by default.

Go to Internet Explorer, Options or (control panel Internet Options)

Go to the connections tab and see if Always dial a connection is selected, if so select dial if no connection is present or try never dial, but remember to change it back when you get home.

Just a though...

Cable is plugged in, "never dial a connection" is selected. But whenever I try to connect I'm only given three options, wireless, dial-up or broadban WITH user name and password. I don't see anyplace that will allow me to connect without that info... If its not a Vista thing what else could it be. Vista controls network connections...

Probably not. Well, screen shot is easy, finding media to dump it from her laptop to something on the network might be difficult...

I'm in Vista now and I don't see why you are having the problems.

I would need more details, of course I'm delirious from shoveling snow.

Capture it and load it to your gallery here...of course by the time you have it figured out you'll be heading home.

Have you tried typing in your user names and password for the network?

Might sound stupid but you never know

ADDED: every time I take my laptop to work I have to log into the network using the ID from one of the office workers
