Good thing is he'd have to un tie you from the chair to trun you around. At that point I'd stick the leg of the chair through his chin expecting to hit his brain. But then have to live with the guilt that I was not willing to go through with what I expected my wife too. Chances are shes leaving your wuss butt for someone atleast willing to try and protect her. Either way your getting robbed of atleast 1/2 your stuff.

I'd recommend you get an alarm system if you don't already have one. Crooks want an easy hit, a blaring *** loud alarm and (hopefully) quick response from the local PD won't give them that easy hit.
Firearms-wise, I think it's hard to beat a good 12 gauge pump action shotgun. Mossberg markets a "special purpose" series, with 18.5" or 20" barrels, bead, rifle, or aperature sights and extended magazine tubes. I personally don't like the Mossbergs because they don't fit me well, the length of pull is really long for folks with average length arms. Remington's "home defense" series guns are solid choices too, there's more 870s out there than any other pump action shotgun in the world. Either of these guns shouldn't run you no more than about $300 NIB.
The most important thing with a shotgun for home defense is figuring what your longest shot will be, and finding a load that'll make it into a torso sized figure at that distance. If you roll with a shotgun, pattern your shot shell choice! How-to info on patterning can be found here. I suggest buckshot of some form or another, don't buy into the "birdshot is less likely to penetrate walls" business. Birdshot is for killing little birds, not for stopping a human threat.
And above all else, get out there and shoot your shotgun. Home defense is gravely serious business - pick your weapon, and practice, practice, practice. And avoid the tacticool gizmos, folding stocks, speedfeed stocks, vertical fore end grips, pistol grips and all that other goofy nonsense. If you're gonna put anything on your scattergun, I suggest a foreend light or some other kinda flashlight rig so you can identify your target before you blow it to smithereens.

less, That's what I'm talking about, You never know when it's going to happen, Better to have something and not use it, but to not have something and need it is not good. Appreciate that, just goes to show what can happen if your not prepared, Thanks. Well, maybe my ole winchester pump 120 might scare someone away if they hear a round being chambered, least I hope so, Appreciate it.

Hehe, I hate to keep doing this, but that's another one we were told not to do. For the same reason as the flashlight... it identifies you for instinctive targeting pretty quick. Also, if you are nervous, and shaky (which I would be), and your aim is not the best, the intruder will see the laser dancing all over the place, (not necessarily at his body) giving him a psychological boost. He will then also know when you are not aiming directly at him during the confrontation, offering the opportunity to make a move.

butthole....
so basicly what your telling me is that skirk is right, I'm going to die......

In all honesty, when I cycle I will do it quietly, and attempt to sneak up on them, I have no problem taking someone out from the back of teh head. I dont have to see thire eyes when it happens that way.
Well, I keep my mossberg 590 Mariner (no add-ons) chambered and ready for action (I live alone-no kids), and I have no problem shooting someone on the spot, provided they meet the requirements for use of lethal force. In fact, 2 years ago, a jury acquitted a guy for shooting two home invaders in the back... one was found in the driveway, and one in the ditch across the street. Man, I love Alaska, and the mindset of most people here.
Edit: and no, skirk is an idiot, I still want to know about that ".50 cal Python"

There is no weapon that can be used by you because what i am telling you is that the person that will enter your house will be on drugs or just screwed up and at that time you have to aim even with a shotgun with the correct ammo not Cables ammo. Look at the person and then fire a round. If he dose not use it on you. This is a fact and do not laugh about it ask the local police. This is not a target it is a life. You will take an extra second to think about pulling the trigger that time is very dangerous for you. That is a live round and a live target.I had to do this and I don't want anyone to go through this and today I was wounded by ordnance that day and stabbed through the hand and pinned to the ground.and lost all most all of my memory I have a hard time spelling thank god for spell check! I don't know my family and it is hard to go to funnels because I don't know them. My kids (son and daughter) have been taught to use a weapon and they are very good at it. I am a member of NRA. I got very up set this post hit home very hard and I don't want anybody to have to go down this road.
The Python is a 50 cal. pistol and it is an Israeli military weapon and the rounds are military not soft lead point. I don't know why but I am still interested in small arms. This is the first time in over 30 years that I ever talked about it and now I have to move on I just hope you don't listen to bad advice from people that think the are gun waving protectors they are just stupid people waiting for something dad to happen!

i dont judge you but this may have hapened to you, but i would never let anything happen to my family. i have an alarm and a dog, i have hidden weapons all over the house,( a pistol in every room and a shotgun under the bed) this will change to be safer when i have kids.
if a person knows how to use the weapon and rehearses what he would do if a burglar or someone else that wanted to do you bodily harm broke in then i think he would have a very good chance of coming out on top. that is MY OPINION. but all this depends on the person, could you look into the eyes of someone that is trying to hurt you or your family and drop the hammer down on that person and watch him die? i dont know about you but i could do it without a second thought. i am doing it right now in Iraq but the people i am saving are not as close to me as my family, so yes sir i think you should do whatever you can to keep your family safe.

You are trained and I know how you feel but a non military person has no idea! I Have the most respect for any service personal that has see any action and you know how that feels but you are a professional not a Cabalas target killer. Our police department has the Taser and this is an option it works! The Python if you release a round in the inside of the house it will exit one building and enter the next building your neighbor.
When I see people reply that they have taken a coarse in firearms and plucked at a target they have to be able to kill or take the person out and not think about it. Think about this and it happened a man came home sick from work at night he forgot his key and did not want to wake up his wife so he went in the back and opened a window to get in. Well his wife saw a dark figure and shot him with a shotgun. It did not kill him but he will never work again! I have a three dogs and I don't think anyone will try to mess with them. The barking and the growl will deter any type of burglar. They are trained to protect and have a secrete command word that my wife and I have and it is in German so we don't say it by mistake. God help anyone that enters there area with the command.Ask your local police about K-9 dogs and how to get one or get the classes and they train you to teach the dog.

It is not like you see on TV! You are not in a kill or be killed situation. I have a 50 cal. Python pistol,9MM and two .45 cal and have been trained to use them and I will not use them on a human I go camping and I don't want to be a meal for a bear!. It will be with you every day. Get a security system and pepper mace. Anyone that tell you to purchase a weapon they are in a fantasy world and they don't know what they are talking about. Call your Local Police and talk to them PLEASE! They will instruct you what to do for you and anyone around you. This is a place to get good information about Fords and the people are very good in that area but not with weapons. I do not want to upset any gun yielding homeowner but the facts show that weapons in a civilians hand is not good protection.
Police reaction time can vary...Lord knows they got other stuff to do and other crooks to catch. I live in a rural area with only three Sheriff's deputies, so while I respect and understand law enforcement's purpose in keep me and my family safe, I also understand that they aren't gonna be Johnny-on-the-Spot when I call them if someone's kicking in my door.
As far as getting your weapon taken by the crook, yes, that's a possibility, but if that happens you've made a terrible mistake. I've ran simulations clearing rooms, and unless you're some kinda military special forces operator or a SWAT officer with the proper training, room clearing - even in your own house - is a stupid and dangerous idea. Going to meet the threat is a stupid and dangerous idea. Being unarmed in the face of a threat is a stupid and dangerous idea.
The best bet is to put yourself in a position where your weapon can't be taken - gather your family members up and barricade yourself in a room facing the door and wait for the crook to come to you. Of course, this still requires a weapon, which according to you the home owner shouldn't have.
