Securing a wireless router - How to?
Living in the country, with my closest neighbor atleast 500 yards away I didn;t worry about it, then one day I was in the back of teh house wit ha laptop trying to connect and I stumbeled on another network signal with a linksys ssid. Signal was super weak but it is still there. I still have no idea who it could be. So I changed my Network name to Trojan.Virus, quit broadcasting my SSID, (unless someone is here that I want to allow acess) and added WEP 64 bit. I monitor my traffic atleast every other day I look at the logs and so far so good. It's been a year.
Id like to know who it is to find out if they have seen and tried to remove thier Trojan.Virus.

Hate to say it, but not broadcasting your SSID is pretty much useless for someone who is able to crack into your WEP. (WEP 64 is equally useless from a person who only mildly knows what they are doing). It will, however, keep honest people honest though. It will keep a otherwise harmless neighbor from "borrowing" your internet connection, but wont even slow down a criminal.
The same information that someone needs to intercept from your network in order to crack the WEP, also includes your SSID.

I'm not trying to guard against super hackers, I'm trying to guard against customers in the lounge filching the signal and dragging me down.
This technically isn't "my" connection anyways, it's the company's, but the router is mine and me and my partner in crime across the street are the only two that uses it (we're the only two with wireless laptops in the building). I've already cleared it with management, using the excuse that I use an internet connection to update my scan tools and I need a clean and fast connection (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Sure he can fix it in 1 reply but if the book says 25 replies that's how many he will wait for.
