Any money in ranching?
Any money in ranching?
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone here is a rancher or anything of that sort? Any money in ranching anymore? I would love to start up my own horse ranch but not sure on how to go about it i guess..
Unless you have any experience at all around horses/cattle, NO! I know of some people who tried the same thing by opening up their own stables. It lasted about a year before they were flat broke. Most people I know who farm/ranch/run stables do it as a second job.
If it is REALLY what you want to do with your life, something that would make you satisfied, complete, fulfilled, all that sort of stuff, I guess you could at least consider it, or go to work for somewhere else in that line of work.
If you are starting from scratch, needing to buy everything, including land, my guess is that your realistic chances of (1)making a good living, (2)keeping all of your bills paid and expenses inder control, PLUS (3)getting a decent return on your investment would be slim to none...

You need atleast 20 years on hand experince.
If you did not grow up on a farm, go work as hand on one. If after 20 years you still like it, then you will have the money and some of the know how you will need to be moderatly successful.
There is alot more to it than just going out to feed and water everyday. and then it is a 365 days a year job. The animals do not know about holidays or vacations. They have to eat, drink and often some need to be meddicated or tended to in a special way every single day of the year. Unless you love it you will likely find that your net return on time invested is less than a couple bucks an hour.

I can tell you to get started involves a lot of night work.
