In that range I'd look at Beltronics.

You can pick up a decent Cobra at that price... Refusing to pay another $400 after my Valentine One got stolen, I bought a Cobra replacement...

No tickets before Cobra, no tickets since Cobra.
I'm not big on Bel, I've had two, and neither lasted 24 months before dying... Apparently not well suited to windshield duty in Texas summer heat.

Escort is money well spent... (I still have two Escorts, 7500 & 8500)

If you can find one (Best buy sells Escort, so you don't have to direct order it) you can pick up a 7500 for $129 - $149.

You may laugh at this, but my best "radar detector" is my CB. I don't talk on it much, but EVERY TRUCKER in the Western Hemisphere knows where every cop is---moving or stationary. I simply listen to channel 19 and I know where they all are.

100% true...

I've wanted a CB in my truck for the same reason, but, never got around to putting one in it.

Reasons: Want it hidden, don't want a long antenna.

Escort Passport 8500 on eBay...save money off retail and you can sell it later without taking too much of a loss.

It is amazing what one can do with heavy duty velcro---I attached the CB to the dash with velcro, and, if need be, I can remvoe it very easily. No holes drilled, etc. I use a magnetic mount antenna---nothing spectacular, but it is tuned and does a nice job. I can put that inside the cab when I go to the carwash, etc...

One thing to consider---with a laser detector, having dealt with people inthe law enforcement business, when the laser detector goes off in your vehicle, they are now clocking you; it is time to either pull out your DL and insurance card or hope that they are giving you enough MPH over the limit...very rarely will the guy miss with one.

Actually, you can buy the hand-held kind and plug it in to a cig lighter or power outlet. If you have the $350 for the radar detector on Ebay, go for it!

One other word---a guy I ref with is a former highway patrolman here in Ohio---he says this---if he pulled somebody over, and if he ever has a question about giving them a ticket or a warning---and he sees that they have a radar detector---it is a ticket and he will not knock any speed off,either...

I have the Escort SOLO s2 for that very reason. It's wireless, and sticks with suction cups to the windshield. If I get pulled over the whole unit can be removed and placed in my center console in 5 seconds.

I am a firm believer in their products. I've owned detectors in that price range from Cobra and Bel... the Bel was, easily, the more solid unit for my situation/geography.
