I'll bet if it was a Ford, it would mean "jack" wouldn't it?

No, but if it was motor trend burger of the year it would possibly mean jack.

No. Whatever-of-the-Year usually defaults to whatever was new for that year anyways.

Besides, the Pinto and Mustang II were once Car of the Year, too. Tells you a lot, doesn't it?

Come on Q, give some props. The pinto was a great car, I'm still alive, we had a '74 pinto wagon when I was a kid.

What really gets under my skin is everything people are raving about on the '07 Silverado/Sierra, Ford did first back in '04.

1.Power rear windows on the extended cab-Ford

2.Rack and pinion steering-Ford

3.Hydroformed fully boxed frame-Ford

4.Tailgate assist-Ford

5.Four wheel ABS disc brakes-Ford

6.Independent coil over front suspension-Ford

All this is standard with Ford, 4&5 are options on a GM. Ford is still the only one offering a 4 door regular cab.

Venting done----for now!

Notice how GM doesn't have ANY commercials with lists of industry firsts to brag about? They literally did just try and catch up, and slightly surpass Ford with this one. Not sure that was a good decision on their part, but only time will tell.

I will say this, the fact that the GM took this award over the Tundra says something: something must be terribly wrong with the Tundra.

I don't think the new Tundra was released in time to be considered for truck of the year.

Yeah, the only thing they have to say in their commercials is "We are professional grade" whatever that means.

Well, now that I see the field, it's clear of one thing... GM had an 80% shot ot winning the Motor Trend Truck of the Year.

Here were the Five Competitors:

Chevrolet Silverado
Chevrolet Avalanche
Cadillac Escalade EXT
GMC Sierra
Ford SportTrac

********************************

What would have been funny, is if the SporTrac had won.

Still, the Silverado is a nice truck, but probably would have still lost to the Ridgeline last year...

From Motor Trend.com

I didn't think the GM (Or any light-duty truck) would have had a real shot against the Tundra.

The truck world moves a bit slower than the rest of the auto industry. That's because trucks are more about function than fashion, and if a truck works, there's not much point in messing with it. Which is why, typically, the life cycle of a truck is about double that of a car. And as fewer automakers are players in the truck sector, only a relatively small number of new or significantly upgraded trucks are launched each year.

Case in point: We had a record 22 contenders for 2007 Sport/Utility of the Year and 27 contenders for 2007 Car of the Year, but only five trucks were eligible for the 2007 Truck of the Year title. And four of them were GMT900-based vehicles from General Motors. We'd expected Toyota's all-new Tundra to be a contender, but the truck's launch was pushed past our January 1 deadline, partly because, say some observers, of last-minute changes to the interior to compete with the upscale interior GM is offering on the GMT900s. Whether you're talking about a Ford Super Duty or a Honda Ridgeline, a truck is about carrying and towing stuff. And this year's TOTY testing was designed to find out just how good each vehicle is at doing just that.

To keep it fair it should be limited to one vehicle from each brand. The Silverado and Sierra are the same truck. For all of GM's improvements they still haven't caught up to Ford.

TBird, I agree. So, with that said, shouldn't the Silverado and Sierra tied for the win? Then there could have been two peices of **** hauling around the TOTY award.
