Wade Phillips hired to coach the Cowboys

It looks like it's finally official... The selection kind of suprised me since it appeared Norv Turner was the favorite. Wade's probably not the most exciting choice to announce, however given the list of rather bland coaching candidates, I think he's probably the best selection from what is available.

Norv wouldnt have been calling the shots because of Jason Garret, so he probablyturned it down. Wade should be a decent coach, just dont think he's the Super Bowl caliber coach...but I hope Im wrong.

No real coach is gonna come here and work under Jerry...

Not if they want to really be a coach.

But, throw enough money at me, and I'd let Jerry call the shots, and I'd be the spokesperson for the team... Which is pretty much what it seems to be like (on the outside looking in) for all the coaches, aside from Parcells and Jimmy.

Million Dollar Question: How do you motivate a bunch of millionaires and hundred-thousandaires to do what is needed to win championships?

Fire them, and find hungry players and stop paying millions of dallors.

Personally, I think Jerry gets a bad wrap... No question about it, he's made some mistakes over the last 15 years, but to a great extent, he seems to have learned from them, and has managed to keep from making the same mistakes repeatedly. I really can't think of anything Jerry's done in the last several years to justify all of the criticism. You won't find another owner in the league that is more dedicated to winning, which is what you hope for in a best-case scenario if your a fan. Most (if not all) of the criticism Jerry's receives now days sources from mistakes he made a decade ago that have stuck with him (and in that they won 3 championships that decade, he must have done something positive to contribute to all of the success they had.)

True, i heard Michael Irving say things of this nature last week at his Hall of Fame induction...

Well, let's hope Wade has the spark to ignight teh Cowboys... This team is bristling with talent and potential... They just need to believe it themselves...

Even in the Cowboys seasons when they didn't make the playoffs, no one really whipped their butts (Except new Orleans this year), not even Philly.

Stupid mistakes...

Eliminate those, and the road to the Super Bowl will go through Dallas, again.

Nobody's been hired as of yet to fill the Cowboys head coaching vacancy.

True and true.

They've been saying it on the news all morning... Apparently Wade was flown in last night, and taken to Valley Ranch.

Usually Jerry makes announcement like this around lunch time, what's he waiting on?

Anyhoo, I think going with Wade is better than going with Norv Turner. I wouldn't have minded seeing the Samurai get in there "Mike Singletary". That joker still looks intense- and physically fit. I'm sure that would have worked with the 'Boys, given their current level of talent. I just wish I had heard the interview with Parcells after he left.

I heard about a 2-second sound bite when he said this was the hardest job he'd ever had in his life...

It'd better be, his street cred is relying on his decision.

Do you guys think it's plausible that Jerry Jones hired Wade Phillips knowing that he is not a longer-than-three-year coach? I say this because he hired Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator, with everyone knowing full well that he will be the coach one day of the Cowboys.

To me, Jerry is going through a sort-of "internal grooming", if you will, of Garrett. So, he needs a coach now that he can scrap after 2-3 years and not look like a bad guy (if he can be thought of as "not a bad guy" anyway).

I think you've been drinking too much of the same Kool-aid Irving drinks daily. The Cowboys are NOT that good, and it will take a lot more than 'believing' to qualify them as the gate keepers of the Superbowl.

No offense, but it isn't their time yet...

Expect to see a lot of Baltimore, NO, and SD in the next year or two. They all have a lot of young potential...

Yeah, just like the Mavericks did with Avery Johnson, hired him as an assistant, then groomed him to be head coach. Now the Mavs are the best in NBA hoops. Leave it to Jerry Jones to be a trendsetter, uh I mean follower.

Why do Mike & I have to be drinking Kool-Aid?

Well, they may not be ready, but they are good. Aside from inconsistent play from the secondary, they don't have many unadjustable weaknesses.

Aside from a few bone-head plays at the end of the season, they'd have been 11-5, rather than 9 - 7.

But, neither of us has a crystal ball, so we'll have to see next year. A coach won't single-handidly get Dallas to the super bowl, just like Ladanian Tomlinson won't get San Diego there alone. It's a team effort.

Lest ye forget, they put their foot in the *** of the Super-Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts.
