street legal 4-wheeler!

If I was to take a 4-wheeler and put on lights, turns signals, proper exhaust, seat belt, etc and insurance , could it be street legal?

Only if you could get a tag for it. Some states allow it, some do not.

If it is street legal, then you must have a license to operate it on a public road.

And if you dont have to have a seatbelt on a motorcycle you sure as hell dont have to have one on a fourwheeler. Pretty much your just gona have to ask the state about that. or talk to law enforcment of some sort.

Just get a dirt bike that already has the turn signals and everything, it would be alot easier than tryin to get yer fourwheeler legalized.

I just checked.

That would be a big NO for your home state.

Louisiana ATV regulations prohibit the use of ATV's on public roads except for crossing the road way or for agricultural purposes.

Around here I think all you have to get is numbers(plates) and some mirrors. But heck when me and my buddies go riddin we just cut accross the road and ride on it for about 45 seconds then we dissapear into the mud pit.

You have to talk to the RIGHT people to get the right answer. I went through the same thing when trying to get my golf cart street legal. Anything out of the ordinary really confuse the people at the license plate office. I called the person in charge of the state inspections and he told me what I needed to do to get my cart legal. First thing I had to do is pass an inspection. In Mississippi that means you have to have headlights (hi AND low beams), running lights, brake lights, horn, turn signals, rear view mirror and full coverage insurance. Then I had to get a bonded title since a golf cart does not have a title. Then I took all of this information to the license plate office and answered a BUNCH of questions and finally got a llicense plate. But, Zaairman is right if you dont have a valid drivers license, none of this matters. The only thing I would say is that if you are serious about doing this is to talk to the people that are in charge at the places that you have to go to. Just because they havent ever done something before doesnt mean that it cant be done.

When I was in Germany last year I saw quite a few 4 wheelers in the down town area that were street legal. It was really cool, and convenient because of parking. If I could have made mine legal here in FL I wouldn't have sold it.

Check into the requirements for specialty built vehicles. Should be the same requirements.
