6.0 PSD - still problematic?

I posted this in the Diesel forum, but it's not as well traveled as this.

Some people here may know that my 05 150 was stolen. Now it's time to start the search. I know I will be buying a KR, but I'm on the fence about a 150 or 250. I'm trying to justify having a 250, other than the fact that I've always wanted one. I know when the 6.0's came out (04?) they had a lot of problems. Have these issues been adressed? Feel free to enlighten me on anything I should be aware of. I am mainly looking at the 05's.

Thanks.

Buy the diesel if you need the extra power and torque.

If you're just gonna use it to putter back and forth to work, you'll prolly have problems. Diesels need to be worked hard for best effect.

I wouldn't even drive it to work, maybe on occasion. I have my rice burner for that. Just used on the weekends and road trips. I know that short trips, not getting it up to full operating temp really kills diesels, or so I've heard.

I know 2 people that have one. One has about 40,000miles on his with no trouble. The other one had to replace the engine at about 100,000miles(not cheap I might add). I told my dad to buy a cummins. Too many horror stories with the 6.0.

My boss has on in his 2002 Excursion, he's loves it?? I have heard they have a lot of problems and Ford doesn't have enough trained mechanics to properly fix them.
Why not get the 6.4L? Supposedly it's going to be much better.

The 6.uhoh wasn't made in 2002. And if the 6.0s are worked hard, then they are great motors. If not, they're crap.

Mid 2003. Early 2003s had the awesome 7.3. Late 2003s had the crap 6.0. Any 2003 with the 6.0 is just about total crap.

Putting 75k miles on a $40k diesel pickup truck, and not having problems doesn't even come close to qualifying it as a good truck. Its life has just begun. For stories about dependable trucks, visit the basement (pre-97 models forum)

I've got two ton trucks, an '05 and an '06.

The '05 (roughly 200,000 miles) has had many problems starting with the blow-by valve(whatever it's called) not functioning properly and kept blowing the pressurized side of the air intake off.
It kept getting the "hiccups" under heavy load. Had to pull off the road, shut 'er down, restart, then continue on for a ways till it did it again...
Had an exremely bad "wandering/shimmy" issue when new, but that was attributed to something loose from the factory.

The '06 (just turned 60,000 miles) hasn't had quite as many problems, except the damn intake hose comes off also. If I could just remember how I fixed the other one

All in all, they are good motors. At first I hated the 6.0, but the 7.3 was just too worn out to keep up, and I HAD to get used to the 6.0. Once I got the bugs fixed, all was well and good. Hopefully these two will still be in good working order so I don't have to buy a first year model of the new engine

Yep, your right, and I thought I new what I was talking about :o His is an 03. I thought they were on the lot when I bought my 02, I guess not. I don't know what I was looking at. It must have been some other time when I saw them.
