07 Silverado - Real World MPG's?
Anyone know a good place to find real world mpg's for the 07 Silverado?
I am trying to do my own real world comparison between the 07 Silverado and 07 F150 (both 4x4 crew cabs). Real numbers for the latest 5.3 are hard to come by. I can't find a decent forum with this information.
Big differences at the moment are
Ford - 60K powertrain :o
Chevy - 100K powertrain
Ford - 3K rebate
Chevy - none
I get X-Plan and GM Supplier Discount so the 3K rebate really helps. I have driven and like both (each can win in different catagories). Just trying to make a winner on paper. Mine will be a daily driver with very little towing.

from the people i've talked to, they aren't much, if any, different than the previous platform with the 5.3L
fwiw, i get better mileage in my supercrew 4X4 than i got in my avalanche
15/19 vs 14/17
gearing will play a large part in comparisons--the 3.42 rear end in the avalanche was too tall for that engine, imo, and mileage suffered because it couldn't hold overdrive in the slightest headwind or incline
i've also read numerous tests on the dod feature and talked to people who own gtm900 tahoes and avalanches, and it's not giving the kind of mileage boost that was expected

Anyway, while we're on "real-world" MPG talk, here's a link that really gets to the jist of those BS large black numbers on a car's window sticker.

I am looking at 3.73 rear for both.
I know what the window sticker says for both - I have done enough reading here and other places to basically know what the real world numbers are for the F150 4x4 with a 3.73 rear - just trying to compare the two (but thanks for think link to the EPA guides)
Not sure how to reply to those complaining that this is in the wrong section. It wasn't my intent to do that. The General section is labeled under the Owner's Connection. Since I am not yet an F150 owner - figured someone would complain about that too. What exactly is the big deal? What do you get out of jumping on people for posting in what you think is the wrong section? Look at the bright side - you get to complain and get your post count up too......

BTW my post count isn't why I'm here. I'm a member here because I get to discuss things with some very knowledgeable people and learn a thing or two in the process.

Here is a quote from Edmunds truck shootout regarding the Silverado:
"Since our Silverado is a long-term test truck, we have a larger sample size from which to cull fuel economy data. The picture is not pretty. Over 5,436 miles, the Chevy has averaged 12.7 mpg with a best tank of 14.2 mpg. Of the three trucks, the Silverado's performance is the furthest from its EPA rating of 15 mpg city, 19 mpg highway."

As far as the 07 5.3 goes I can't give first hand experience, but I do have an 04 Crew Z71 4x4 w/the 5.3. You would assume that since the new 5.3 has displacement on demand that it SHOULD do better than mine.
Before I say anything else, I need to say this isn't an attempt to start a flame war. In fact, I've driven both Ford and Chevy trucks over the last 15 years. But it has been my opinion that the GM 5.3 is very good on gas mileage. If you drive it like you stole it my experience may not be typical as I use mine as a daily driver and as the typical middle aged guy w/2 kids might. But in the rural western mountains of NC I typically average around 17-17.5. IF I stay 65-70 MPH on the interstate I've gotten as high as 21. Every manufacturer has their own pluses and minuses, but my 04 is the 3rd GM truck 5.3 L I've owned and all have been very good on gas for a full size truck.
I imagine Ford is going to be very generous with the rebates as GM and Toyota are hitting the market w/new trucks. As a matter of fact the reason I'm not in a Ford now is that back in 04 when the Fords were new GM was generous with the cash. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Drove an 07 Lariat 4x4 last night. I get X Plan + $3250 rebates, but we are way off on trade (3K) at the moment. I told them to forget it and they are already working on numbers again for the third time. We shall see.....
