1000watt heating element in the block to warm the motor and coolant.

I had to change out my corroded plug before this season.

To hijack that classic line from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles -- "You're fu*ked!"

then in super sub-zero weather your truck may take a little while to start- the heater reduces wear on the engine components, starter- the initial crank will burn the gas more efficiently

Gassers waaaaay below 0 won't start, and diesels below freezing start funny and don't have a defroster fer awhile.

Last year, my rear transfer case seal went out because it was cold-cracked, but it was -72 F. Also, the serpentine belt started to come apart, but it needed replaced anyway. The defroster also had a hard time keeping up with it.

Yeah, it was an unusually cold snap around Northway, AK, not too far from the Yukon border... I was puckering pretty good, since it was 2:30 in the morning.

yep it was -35*F about a week ago-and tried to squirt the window to clear the frost buildup... fyi, the mr clean green windshield washerfluid that says its good to -30*F well, they aren't lying about 3pm when we reached our high of -28*F the fluid was flowing again

-72 below has got to be sucky, as well as expensive with seals cracking etc.. !! - my truck has seen -43 below, w/ W.C of -80*F cold'nuff for me.

You literally plug it in with an power cord
All of our vehicles have block heaters. I drive the Samurai to work and my boss lets me plug it in at work too. My husband thinks I look a little redneck driving it though. One day, when he started it and unplugged it, he wrapped the extension cord around the front bumper so I drove it to work that way. Now I do that every day beats having to fight with the cord every time, I just unwrap what I need and leave the rest on the bumper!!
