Useless? Our house cat is sometimes the only thing to bring our nearly 1 year old out of a crying fit she likes him so much. We kept a close eye on the cat in the beginning and we haven't had a problem with him since the day we brought her home from the hospital.

As Vader alluded to, we have bigger things to worry about our kids getting into than our lazy cat.

I was not saying that all cats were bad. I'm saying that if someone is concerned about a cat getting in the crib with their infant, why not get rid of the cat. If this is not a concern, keep the cat. A telephone, and a toilet, etc are NEEDS. A cat is not. Cats are replaceable. Kids are not.

HEAR, HEAR!!!

The only good cat is one that's being eaten by a snake. If no snake is available, a shark or any other carnivorous beast will do.

KC-10 FE out...

I had a cat about 8 years ago. His name was Cosmo. One of the best pets I ever owned. It too was very fond of my small daughter.(she was 2-3) That cat was more a dog than a feline. We loved that cat. We had to get rid of him because we moved and the landlord said no pets. We actually kept him for 6 months after we moved in, but it got too hard to hide him, and his smell, from the LL. Having said that, a cat is still pretty useless. It can be a comfort to have around and all, but what can it do? It's a very selfish animal. Just like humans. This is all I have to say about this subject. I respect all of your opinions.

Sorry RC if you're feeling a bit down. You shouldn't read those stories when you have an infant.

Fireboy, I'm glad you respect all of our opinions. I have always had cats and I find they can be just as loving and entertaining as dogs if you get one that has a personality. True, some cats can be duds but then so can some dogs. Don't get me wrong, my dogs are very well loved members of the family but so is my cat.

And the myth about them killing infants is just that, a MYTH. We had one cat who's favorite place to sleep was the crib beside the baby.
