carpet screws?

anyone heard of or seen a screw that goes thru your carpet to your subfloor? this is to drive into the joists below that to stop squeaking....supposedly the top of the screw then snaps off after you drive it into the floor? went to home depot and lowes and in the hardware isles and flooring isles, nothing. i caught a home show (do it yourselfer), show this and when he finished this ladies bedroom it seemed to work well. i really don't want to tear up carpet if i don't have to.....just doing a bunch of stuff to get ready to put on market. thanks......

They did a segment on Ask This Old House a few months ago.... They work really well and it's a simple design. My best suggestion would be to visit their web site and ask a question to try and get the name of the product. I don't recall them mentioning it in the episode, but they should be able to tell you. (Tom Silva was the one that did the work)

Just did a quick google, people are finding them in the Lowe's and HD flooring departments. Don't know why yours didn't have them.

Because those stores SUCK. I went to HD the other day to get new covers for my hot water baseboard heaters, only to find out they don't fit. Went back and they said they don't carry what I need. I go to Lowes and ask the guy there " Nah, we don't carry any hot water baseboard heat stuff. All we have is electric baseboard. I don't know why, all the other Lowes stores carries it" I'm like , whatever and I left. Why the hell would they not carry it and carry it in a few different sizes?

Only reason I can think of is that the area you are in has few hot water baseboard heat. Can't sell it, so they don't stock it. Maybe even zoning issues. Some places you can't use PVC for water supply lines, dumb rule, but some have it. Either that or they just don't have room. Some store, due to zoning are limited in their square footage. I know where I live they limited square footage to 65,000, so the Walmart we have is smaller than most.

Check the flooring departments. That's where they were when I worked for Lowe's. Not all stores will carry them though. The other closest Lowe's was ~20 miles away. You'd be suprised at the difference in merchandise.
