Decisions..Decisions...TV, HD DVD or PS3?

Christmas is not over yet for me guys. My mom told me she wanted to get me a new DVD player for Christmas but didn't dare pick it out. So she wants to take me this week to get one. She's like...I wanna get you one of those new digital or whatever ones.I'm like you mean HD..yeh, yeh,,thats what I mean she says.

So now i'm looking at them and I'm a little unsure about HD or Blue Ray. Should I get one of these players or just get the PS3 or, since I have a $500 -$600 range to work with, should I have her kick in for the LCD I want and then just get a nice 37" or 42" LCD?

My issue is that BlueRay and HD DVD are so new I would hate to have her spend the money on it and it flop. And with my luck whichever one I got would be the one to flop. So I guess I'm just wondering what you guys think? Is it even worth spending $500 on an HD DVD player? I'm looking at this one right now http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvd/product.asp?model=hd-a2

So what do you guys think?

Get the TV man, and maybe an HD satellite receiver. The PS3 and all that blu disc crap ain't worth a damn unless you have a badass TV anyways.

Now is NOT the time to buy an HD player IMO. It's still very new, and not only do you run some risk with one being "phased out," but prices are still sky high. I would suggest going for a TV now, and save up and get a HD DVD player in 6-12 months when they come down a bit, and the technology is more proven.

I'd get the PS3, you've got a Blu-ray player and game console all in one. The PS3 will not flop and will only get better over time.

I got the hd a2 two weeks ago. It looks awesome in 1080i. I walked right by the ps3 or I'd have probably got one of them. There aren't that many movies yet for the hd dvd or blueray. So far all I have is Fearless, 2 fast 2 furious, and training day. You do get free firmware upgrades for the toshiba dvd player, so that pretty cool. I have heard there a 60 percent return rate of ps3. So be sure to get the warranty. I don't know if the hdmi cable comes with the ps3, but the thing is expensive. If you would have bought last weekend you could have got two hd dvd free at best buy.

Well, the TV would be for my bedroom since I have a 50"Toshiba HDTV in the family room and I already have the HD boxes for my Direct TV.

Lumadar....thats my concern. It's so new, it's a risk to spend all that money.

The PS3 is very high on the list since I really want it.

And CrAz3D..I honestly don't "need" any of them..LOL, I just want more toys

Invalid...how do you like it? Would you buy it again or get something different if you had to do it all over?

ps3 is the way to go! It's like a computer, upgrade it over the internet to make it better with new updates.

Pickup the PS3 Brewdude.... If I would have saw it first, I would have bought it. The HD-A2 sound wise and picture is killer. You can tell a huge difference between an hd dvd and a regular dvd. Like I said though there isn't much out there for either one of them hd dvd or blueray. I really don't see hd dvd going anywhere anytime soon, though. When I get a PS3 it will be a 20 gig. I don't need all that extra crap with 60 gig.

I wouldn't invest in an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player... no idea where the market's going.

If you're interested in a PS3, I've got a brand new one that I'm going to return to wal-mart if I don't find someone to sell it to at cost.

All-in-all, I'd go for the TV. The Plasma/LCD tv market is HOT right now with a lot of price wars. great time to buy.

Since I have absolutely no idea what a Blu-Ray is and I don't know much about the others, I have absolutely nothing to add to this thread
