Are you a courteous driver?

Really.

Just a simple question for you all.....

While driving along, minding your own business jamming to some tunes or whatever, and you meet an oncoming vehicle, do you politely wave at them?

[Edited for Yanks]

Yes, on a rural street cruising at about 30 MPH

Like what? On a rural road or busy morning commute? Rural road sure, my morning commute is spent riding the rear bumper of the DB in front of me in the left lane doing 5 under the limit all while flipping him off shouting wild obscenities.

Thats not courteous...that's scary...

I'll let someone over or out but just to wave at someone?

No way...too serial killerish to me..

Exception: On the water or in the mountains...

Apparently I am everyone tells em that I'm number one every time I get behind the wheel.

Sometimes they tell me I'm number two....

But the general consensus seems to be that I'm #1!!!

I tend to agree with everyone else... On a rural country type road, I do, but in the city, I do not...

Always wave on the water...

jamz, I used to, but we have so many Yankees and Californians in Texas now that think you are flipping them off, it isn't worth it. If I spot a farm truck or rancher coming at me I give the Texas salute.

Out in the country where I live, everyone knows everyone so yes we all wave. In the city I will wave at another King Ranch or a nice Superduty.

Too busy around here to be waving at everyone.
I'd get car pal tunnel syndrome.

My subdivision has about 500 homes averaging over 2 cars per house.
I recognize about 10%.
I always wave at those.
I always wave at anyone going down my street or maybe one street adjacent to my street.

They almost always wave back.
If they do not wave back, I mark them down in my 'Do Not Wave' mental notebook.

I also wave to pedestrians.
But this is just to show them how good I can drive with one hand as I go roaring by.

I have to agree........back home I used to wave to all.......but now that I live near a larger city, I only wave to trucks or servicemen (military vehicles, police, fire, etc...).....but I will do so in both in the city and in the country.....

I live in the country so generally if I see someone with the same truck as me I generally give the steering wheel salute. I drive with the left arm extended out on the wheel and I generally give the quick 2 finger salute almost looks like a peace sign. 98% of the time i get the same wave back. Just a country thing to do. I don't do it in the city though.

In the summer time doesn't matter where I am I generally give a quick wave to the cops and with my arm hanging out the window just a quick wave thats it.

If someone looks friendly and are making eye contact with you then I give a quick wave.

Oh yeah, bike rules are different. I do the same, but then flip off the Harley DB's that snub other bikers.
