HDTV Splitters

Ok here is a question for some of you more informed folk.We have a HDTV which only has an input in the back for one set of cables for HD.Now that we have an Xbox I need to try and figure how to put two sets of those cables into the TV.Anyone have any ideas. Thanks for any help.

First question, what type of input are you using to the TV, HDMI, Component, or DVI. Each of these can handle HDTV. What types of output connections are there from the items you are trying to connect.
If you have both HDMI and component inputs and the devices are both HDMI, there are converters that go from HDMI to other types of connections.

Ok I am not to smart when it comes to this so beer with me.On our tv we have the HD receiver hooked up to the DTV inputs on the tv.Its resolution
is 480i,480p and 1080i.It has 5 cables that go into green yg red pr blue pb white H and a yellow v.So now on the xbox for me to get 1080 I would need to go into the same inputs hence the need I think for a splitter.I figure though that to do that I will also need to change my settings each time i switch from one to the other.Does this help?

I have to ask, what make and model of TV? Most have more than one component (yg,pr,pb) or some other input like HDMI.
On my 61", I have at least 3 different connections that can handle HD video. 1 DVI and 2 component. My 26" has 2, an HDMI and a component, so I wouldn't be surprised if you have more than 1.

You would put the above switch between your devices (HD Tuner, Xbox) and your TV. Connect the HD tuner to "Input one" on the switch, the Xbox to "Input 2". The output of the switch wires to the input on the TV.
If you have a DVD player with a component connection, you could connect it to "Input 3" on the switch.
Input 1 = HD
Input 2 = Xbox
Input 3 = DVD

If your TV is properly set up it should change modes (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) automatically based on what ever the source (HD tuner, Xbox, DVD) is putting out.

The colors for component video are red, green, blue (red and white are audio)
Yellow = composite video (not HD)

I hook everything up to my Home theater receiver, and one output goes to the tv.

I did a search for the Mitsi, but didn't come up with a lot of info, none at the Mitsi site. What I did find is that if you wish to hook up something to 1080i, you are stuck with bringing it in thru your component input. You do have a VGA input, but all I could find said it was 480, and not up to 1080. I looked at the Xbox 360, and it can be hooked up either component (360 Pro), or composite (360 base model), so I assume you can get different connectors.
Assuming that the xbox is 1080, not sure, didn't find any specs at MS although I didn't drill down a lot, then you will have to get something like the 3in1 switch. I would look around, there may be something cheaper, but not by a lot.
Sorry I couldn't help more.

Hey Guys you have been a great help, looks like I will end up getting the three in one splitter. At the moment the Xbox is being shown in 480 which is also pretty good but I would like to see the differance at 1080.Our friends were impressed with the quality of picture but after you watch stuff in 1080 you don't want to go back.
