Unhappy landrover discovery beat my F150

ok heres the story,

i went up to visit my friends who were playin around with an 03 landrover discovery yesterday. he has land in hemlock NY so it was a muddy mess, the landrover absoultely tore it up, until the tires were so slick with mud they began to have no effect. of course my 2wd truck got stuck somehow in slick ruts one small path, but i'm over that anger issue.

now for the race. we're on the expressway goin about 70 ish and then he started to fly up on my.

i nail the throttle and catch up slightly because of the downshift into third. then fourth comes up and i max the truck out because all the sudden it started to make a weird loud shuddering noise like when you drive over speedbumps (but dont worry, i wasnt) and my needle was all the way to the 100 mph. i stopped because i didnt want anything to break anything.

the landrover easily could have gone faster. and i know he's got hight speed govenor.

i'm just bummed because a landrover with a 4.6 V8, the same engine i have, beats me!

even with the troyer XcalII, air force one intake, my exhaust(although i know, its just a flowmaster) and i hvae the troyer iginition upgrade, and
4.10's.

we did this race 3 other times, he always gets me oh the high speeds. i'm wondering if i can take him from a dead stop, but he is AWD all the time....

ok just had to vent/share my sad sad story. and his landrover really does to an awsome job offroadin, now i kinda want one of them!

That shuddering you felt... Engine misfires... That's how the governor works, it cuts out the ignition...

Not to mention your 4.10 gears are not the best for top end performance.

thanks 98Lariet4x4 for letting me know what that shuddering was, i was nervous something would be wrong today. now i know what the problem was.
and yea i guess with the 4.10's, not so good for super fast speeds i should have known better.

JBMX928 i live right up next to UB north campus, so amherst area i guess.

That was the first thing that poped in my head too....

unless your running 33" tires to raise the final drive gear ratio. But even with 33's your top possiable speed in drive at 5K rpm would only be 119.77 mph with 4.10.

BTW
Your stock tire size is 29" which is only 105.25 mph at 5K rpm w/o OD running 4.10's.

Google shows the 2003 land rover as running 3.8:1 with a top speed of 130 mph, so he would still be pulling hard when his governer kicks in, probably at 105-109.

If his rev limiter was set at 109, he is easily pulling 4 mph faster than you your top speed before his shuts him down. If he takes out the rev limiter he will wax you every time after 60 mph with those gears.

get rid of those 4.10 those are for weak engines under 200 hp.

Lowest gear I'd go would be 3.73, but would look in to numerecilly lower.

Your top end limiter should have been removed with Mikes custom tuning....
Did you ask him not to do so?????????

Even with it removed his top speed with those gears is only 105.25 mph He likely cant reach the limiter if it is there.
