2006 - Pedro's cause is taken up by ultra-liberals. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro given diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he can't speak English.

Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle, blows up a red ant bed.

almost funny in a way, not far from the truth. when there was a figh in my school 5 coaches would appear from nowhere and spear every kid involved in the fight. one kid got literally thrown once. no parents complained and nobody lost their job.

there was that one time with the drug raid (stratford high school, maybe youve heard of it). not pointing fingers but the race card was pulled for that one and the greatest principal ever lost his job.

Way back when, when I was in school, if there was a fight, the two idiots were taken down to the wrestling room and put boxing gloves on. They then proceeded to "box" until neither one had an ounce of energy left---left leaning on each other---laughing at and with each other.

My Dad was a teacher, and his rule was---if the good guy is winning the fight, take your time getting there; if the bad kid was winning, break it up in a hurry.

I can guarantee you now, however, (I am an English and Speech teacher) no kid will pass my class unless he or she gets a passing grade---no exceptions---and we have some tutors, but no English as a Second Language class. That kid better make the grade, or he doesn't walk in June. Last year two of my "darlings" didn't get a passing grade and I met with each kid and his parents---one of the students pleaded with me to give him extra credit---I said, "If you had done the for-credit assignments the way you should have, we wouldn't be having this conversation now, would we?"

On another note---when I first began teaching, a longtime ago in a galaxy far, far away---all of us kept our shotguns in the coaches office; if a student was going hunting after school, he would bring his, too---and it would be kept there until school was let out. Not anymore, though.

1994- We carried guns in the back glass of our trucks.

Go ahead and open fire... hope you can get us all before any one of us can get to our gun.

My high school English teacher had a Civil War day every year. He'd bring muzzle loaders and blast off firing caps in our ears. After school one day, he asked me to take his gun to his truck. I grabbed the gun and walked by the principals office to go out the front door. His secretary was stacking papers or something. She stopped what she was doing when she saw me with the gun, and her jaw dropped. I thought it was pretty funny.

Most, if not all, of those scenarios could be avoided with proper parental involvement.

Good parenting is the key to preventing:
1.Violent acts
2.Vandalism
3.Drinking / drug abuse
4.Unplanned pregnancies

When I was a child, my father guided me in the ways to build a campfire. My grandfather taught me how to handle and respect my first .410. My mother got on me when I was disrespectiful with others and when I was slacking in my school assignments. Yes, there were times when I felt they were trying to control me, and I rebeled. However, today I realize what they were doing. They were trying to raise me and allowed me to be a child.

In the modern world many parents feel that what their children do is beyond their control. They think its "cute" when their 4 year old flips someone off or that they will be the "cool" parent if they allow their teenager to drink a beer. Adolescents may look grown up, but they lack the coping skills necessary to deal with complex situations. Kids are desperately trying to become adults and in the process they are jumping over the needed foundations to being good citizens.

I am a high school teacher. I have seen all of these problems, and many more, first hand. Putting our heads in the sand and pretending that these infractions are not serious is welcoming tragic outcomes.

Stupid people lead to stupid laws

Sounds like my last year of HS. Hell, one day in auto shop some guy came in and beat the **** outta a kid doin a brakejob. Any time there was a fight, it would turn into 10 on 1 and when his "boys" got there, 20 v 20 with god knows what for weapons. Ya, the city cops pretty much had their own parking spot.

Cars would be smahed up and broken into during class, and blood on the sidewalks really wasnt a shock to anyone.

I had one of the vice principles take me aside in the hall once on break and start questioning me because I was talking with another guy about my hunting trip over the weekend. Some BS about how guns have no place in school and I shouldnt ever talk about them. Dont even mention the time one of the staff saw an empty shotshell in the bed of my old Ranger I missed when I was cleaning it out
