German Shepards and carrots...
Any idea how hard it is to get a German Shepard to chew a carrot???
My 3 year wanted to put out carrots for the reindeer "Since Santa gets cookies", and my wife wanted the dog to put teeth marks in it... I don't think my dog like me very much right now...

What a great idea!

You know, I have never ever considered the reindeer before. Maybe that's why they stay fit and Santa is so fat! I am going to start putting out carrots too! Great Idea!:santa:

Tried that... she licked it all off...
Finally had to hold it and a hot dog sied by side, and let her chew into the carrot before she could get to the hot dog...worked pretty well..
Actually I believe I have a pic of her and the carrot... I'll see if I can find it...
EDIT: Never mind, I deleted it...

To get the "Santa chewed" look on a carrot, use a fork to stab down on the carrot to get the uneven tooth marks.
That was what my dad did to get the "Easter Bunny chewed" effect when I was a kid some 50 years ago...
As far as the dog goes, our dog thinks that he is a little people, not sure he even knows he is a dog...lol
He has to have food in his bowl topped with just a little bit of people food or he won't touch it. We call his canned soft food "beef stew" in front of him, call it dog food and he won't eat it either. He also loves carrots. Take the little ones that come in a plastic bag, cut them up in 3-4 sections each, put a few green beans or boiled potatoes, or a thin slice of ham, plain cooked chicken, sometimes use some "beef stew", maybe just a little cheese on top, and put whatever you used all on a small saucer and pop it in the microwave, then when it cools down put it on top of the dog food in his bowl.
Some dogs will attack their food, he will sit and watch us and not eat anything of his until we start eating what we have. Looks like manners to anyone who sees it, but probably just the "pack dog" in his breed.
What any of us grownups won't do for that little dog we love so much...
I have a true story about his Christmas presents that just happened last night if there are enough dog lovers on here who want to read it...
Merry Christmas all, and please remember what Christmas is all about, at least for me...

I'll read it, Partick, I'm a huge dog lover.. Ok, that might not have sounded right, but you know what I mean...
The weirdest dietary habit I've ever seen from a dog was from from this goofy old solid black German Shepard named Buck we adopted when I was a kid . Buck was about 3 years old when we got him, and should have been well out of the chewing stage, but he wasn't. My parents bought a nice wooden picnic table and and a set of wooden rocking chairs. Buck, he went and chewed the rockers off and started on the legs of the picnic table. So my dad tried a trick he'd heard, putting hot sauce (in this case it was Louisiana Butt-Burner) on the legs of that picnic table to try and keep Buck off of it. Instead, that dayum dog became so attached to the hot sauce he would not eat his food without it... He literally went 3 days without eating until we broke down and put that sauce on his food...

Sorry, I guess that German Shepards haven't been tamed yet and are still the carnivore breed among dogs... Well, at least the best breed.

Guess I'm just as under-developed as my dog when it comes to vegetables...
Besides, my 5 yead old would have picked up human teeth marks. As it was, he examined it for a good 5 minutes before pronouning that it was indeed Comet's teethmarks...
