Talking Came back to Ford.

I bought a 1978 Stingray about a year ago and I had some problems with it, nothing mechanical. Insurance and payments for a Corvette at my age is out the damn roof. So I went back to a 98 F-150. Feels good to get a truck again so it feels like I got a huge pair.

I used to be on this site by the name of ECG : Blindman.

They are great cars its just that at the age of 17, its really hard to keep up with one especially one that is almost 30 years old.

actually from what ive heard insurance is cheaper on vettes then on camaro/ta's b.c insurance assumes most late teens/early 20's cant afford a vette.

So you had payments on a 78 Stingray? To a bank? Ouch.

Why would you use a 78 vette as a daily driver?

I think by the time I hit 17 I had already had three different vehicles. I don't think your situation is all that uncommon.

You know, come to think of it, in my thirties I still change vehicles often.

Welcome back. You like the flack? If I remeber, correctly you got some when you left. Don't take it the wrong way. It just means they like you.

It only had 49,280 miles on it and I would of only used it for school and work and a drive once and a while. About 40 miles a week. If it wasnt a Stingray but a C4 then I could of made all the payments. Im hoping that my dad will give me his 00 Vette for a graduation present.

Well I guess 'Matt' is a perfect example of breaking this rule more than once!

I'm surprised insurance on a 30-year-old car was that high -- even if it was a Corvette (?). Let's face it -- late-70's Corvettes had about as much "get-up-and-go" as a '98 Accord!

That being said, I would question the wisdom of parents who would allow their 17-year-old son to own such a vehicle. Putting a car like that in the hands of a teenage boy is like asking for trouble -- I know, because I was a teenage boy once myself!

But hey, if you can get away with it, go for it -- God knows I would have at that age!
