Wide screen movie format SUX! *rant*

Is there some purpose to this POS format? When movies are released after the theater for rental why are they not re-formated like they are when shown on TV? I don't care if I miss part of the picture on the ends anything is better than those big dead spots at the top and bottom of the screen. I try not to rent movies in wide screen format because it sux @$$!!!

Because they make TV's that are extra wide now.

You can view the entire picture on it.

I have the old style "regular" T.V. but its 51 inches across.

That little black strip on the top and the bottom dont matter to me.

I still have plenty of picture to view.

well most films are shot in that format, and newer widescreen tvs fit them perfectly. But I do understand you, why shoot it in that format if thats not the comman tv size.

Ahh I did not know there are TVs with screens that the format is OK on. I only watch movies on my 17'' laptop.

It IS becoming "commom" TV sizes. In another 5 years or so old TV's won't be working to well...

My TV is a standard 36" flat screenbut whenever I buy movies I always get the widescreen version. They play great on my 15" widescreen laptop and this 36" TV will not last forever. I am actually considering turning my home studio into a dual purpose room as a studio/home theater with a projector in the ceiling and a screen that rolls up out of the way.

Yea even the monitors, laptop and desktop both are going to widescreen.

I was looking at widescreen flatpanel TV's today. Almost picked one up, but decided to wait til after christmas. I like the wide scren format, even if it's on a 4:3 (regular screen) as long as it's a good screen, then the top and bottum should be pitch black and you dont notice it. If they are dark gray then you notice and it ruins teh experince, if they are noticeable then you need to buy a new TV anyway because that one is/was junk anyway.

No, only digital broadcasts are required. Digital does NOT equal HD. Granted all of the big networks will broadcast in HD, but its not required.

And in the future, more than likely all TVs will be widescreen. Both of mine are. A 61" and a 26". Wouldn't have it any other way. As D said, digital doesn't mean HD. HD means transmitted in 720P or higher, 16X9 format, and digital.

It's brilliant for them to make movies in widescreen format. That way we'll have to buy tv's and monitors that they push on us in order to watch the movies in perfect viewing conditions.

I hate movies that aren't widescreen even on my regular tv's. I have both types. One is a 30" widescreen tube tv. If my wife bought a movie that wasn't widescreen I'd make her take it back. She now remembers to look to see.

But what difference does it make unless you're trying to watch a movie on a 13" screen?

Check that out. that is a good explanation of why widescreen is better than fullscreen with pictures to explain it is so.

Me personally i'd rather see the whole movie than have it chopped up so it fits on my tv screen
