The ratchet wrench idea seems like a good gift.

I bought like 10 of these to give for gifts this year. For $14.88 it's a great gift. I have one and enjoy it.

however you sort of reminded me i have beenthinkin of maybe buying 2 fishing rods for him so we could go fishin, is there any place like ****s sporting goods where i could get 2 for 30-60 dollars?
i checked out the ugly stick and i think they were 40 a pop.
im jus lookin for base of the line fishing rods, we dont need nothin fancy

edit : ohh now i see ****s sporting goods has reel/rod combos for only 20 a piece, i may have to look into this aha.

anyone a fisher? want to advise me to a decent one for just base line rods/reels?
me n my dad basically jus want decent ones so we can fish n throw em back.

I have 3 of them and use them all. I use them for work on guns, and little projects around the house. Helpful in stereo installs. With the range of attactments and points available you will use it quite a bit, especially if you did the scoll cuts on those fancy sideboards.

I think this is a great idea. Some of my best memories of my dad are of us fishing together.

The combo in the first link is a starter kit and nothing else. It's not the greatest thing out there but it will at least get you a few days of fishing before you get pissed at it for nt casting right or reeling in wrong or whatever. The second link didnt work for me. Are you trying to stay in the $50 range for both rod / reel combos or just for Dads? You can get a decent combo for dad in the $40 - $50 range and then go get yourself one after Christmas...just a thought.

Don't rule out Kmart and Walmart...my local Kmart has an awesome selection of fishing gear. Granted, fishing is the #1 thing to do in my town so they kinda cater to it. But you can get some nice stuff there at a good price.

As for the Dremel idea..if he's never used one or doesn't do hobbys or clean his guns, then I would stay away from it. I have one that I use for small projects here and there. But 99% of the time, it sits on the shelf.

Raoul...if anyone can make that sign with just a dremel, they are "DA MAN" that sign was done with a router. A dremel is good for the hobbiest.

I haven't a clue what to get anyone in my family, but dad is is the hardest to buy for. He's a veterinarian about 58 with no interests (this year) outside of Christianity and organic foods...Hmmm...

Last year I bought him a bag for his new digicam, and that was a stroke of luck that I got that idea... This year he is a even tougher...Maybe I'll just get him cologne...Or seeds blessed by a Rabbi

also

is the tackle box in the one kit enough for both of us?
i dont think i would need to buy 2 of those kits instead of a kit and a rod/reel combo.

I'd get the spinning reels myself. But if you're not familiar with a spinner, I'd just get the push button casting reel for yourself, and get your Dad the spinner. If you have a wal-mart around, they have some pretty good deals on Zebco rod and reel combos. You could look at the cabelas.com website and see what they have.

Sounds like a great gift idea. Fishing is the best father and son sport IMO.
