No. Although in a cold climate like that of the Upper Midwest, it probably doesn't hurt.

I think the real key to the story, however, is the line where it mentioned he took "meticulous care" of the vehicle. Keeping up on a normal regimen of preventative maintenance, and performing it religiously, will allow most folks to keep a vehicle running long after they have grown tired of it!

My dad's 1998 Ranger has 180K with everything besideds the alternator and sparkplugs being original. His 'meticulous' maintinence includes changing the oil every 5,000 miles using only the finest dollar store oil.
