Thinking F150 again... question...

Well, the Camino is need of some TLC, and until the house is built I have no garage to do the work in. I will also have very little if any time once the house is started. I have to have a reliable vehicle... I will be out there in the cold replacing heater hoses tonight, and need to replace the heater core and radiator... I "might" have time this weekend. I'll be down at Dad's with it on the lift swapping rear gears... Hopefully going to redo the brakes while its up there... I'm just worried if something else goes (it is a 30 year old vehicle) I won't have time or a place to work on it...

So, I've been thinking just get something cheap and good on gas. Keep the Camino around for trips to Lowe's and for pulling the trailer, but I've also been thinking about just getting another 99-03 F150...

My question is... how are they holding up. I absolutely loved my '03, and wish I had kept it, but I didn't... It only had around 35k miles when I traded it off, and I had no problems in that amount of time, but I assume it won't be finding one with that kind of mileage (especially in a short bed, regular cab V8)...

Am I thinking correctly here? I'd LOVE to have a gen II Lightning, but I think its probably more than I could/should spend right now...

I'd say go for it. You already know what you want in a truck, and you know you'll like it. You can probably find a 4x2 Reg cab short bed 4.6 XLT with 80K for under $6,000.

Whoops! I'm sorry. I always forget PM's are now on, and I never bother to look over there... I'll get back to you asap...

So, you guys think I'll be alright with a higher mileage truck? I mean I really could afford something new, but really don't want a "new" payment... I came very close to buying a new Miata in the last couple weeks... Thinking the Camino would still be around for "truck" duties... but talked myself out of the payments for now...

If 80K miles is high for you, then you haven't been reading all the high mileage posts on this forum. WLF has over 200K on a supercharged 4.6, Bent6 has over 300K, and I'm at 114,604.3. If everything goes to plan, my truck will have about 200K on it when I retire it from DD duty. That doesn't mean that I'll be getting rid of it either.. Also, you can bet your *** that I'll be driving it like I do now.

80k may be nothing or alot depending upon the treatment the truck received.

I personally would be uneasy buying any vehicle with that many miles on it simply because I don't know how well it was taken care of.

Any time you buy a used vehicle ( from someone you don't know ), it is a crapshoot. Sometime it can be if it is someone you know.

Buy a 4.9L and you wont have to worry about a thing.
