He made the "box" part out of a piece of pipe cut lengthwise, and welded to the walls/floor. Put a door/flag on it.
Several nights later, he heard a vehicle fly by and a sharp CRACK, followed by a scream.
Found a splintered baseball bat on the ground.
Fill the mailbox with cement. They'll only hit it once, before they have toi go to the hospital with a broken wrist. Just let the mailman know so he doesnt freak out with no place to put the mail.

HAAHAHAH clasic yea that will snap a wrist and nice sig Brew
I would say mailbox baseball should be countered with vehicular skeet shooting...
A few years back there was a guy around here who was in his back yard (out in the country) with a gun. While he was back there a truck drove by with three people in it. They hit a grand slam with his mailbox. He ran around the house, and shot (and I believe killed) the middle passenger in the truck as it drove away.
I can't remember for sure, but I believe he was aquitted. His defense said that he thought the sound of the mailbox being hit was someone shooting at him, and he was shooting back in defense...
I'll have to see if I can find anything about it...

These are the ones we use: at 25# each and made out of 12 ga steel, the are pretty dang tough.

Not cheap, but..... The other option that a friend used was a crankshaft from a large Cummins Diesel cemented 3' into the ground and a connecting rod welded on to it to hold the mailbox. Kids came along and not only broke the bat, but broke the kids wrist. Then the kids parents sued over this, saying that the intent was to hurt someone, not protect his property. This was a few years ago, but the suit was actually thrown out.
