Computer question...

I bought a computer with a DVD+/-RW drive. Should I be able to burn DVDs?

you will have to have a program to get past the anti-piracy thing on most dvd's. My buddy has the program and it supposed to get it to me this week.

yes

elaborating on Trooks- to burn encrypted dvd's ie copying movies, you will need the said software.. but if you are burning general data, home movies etc. your computer should have software nested already-albeit probably crappy.

Yes you can burn onto blank DVDs Also blank Cds too, since 99.99% of the drives ive seen are DVD-Rw/ CD-Rw

now I am confused. When I bought this computer a few months ago on ebay, the add said it came with a DVD+/-RW drive. But I looked up what kind of drive it was and found out that I can only read DVDs and right/read CDs. These are so damn confusing but i dont think I can write DVDs. (thats what Im trying to do, not copy)

look at the drive front...if there is a white/grey box with RW in it or anywhere on it, says rewriteable, then that's what youv'e got... what kind of pc did you get?

You can use dvdshrink to rip/encode dvds.

In regards to your drive, 3 options
DVD == read only drive
+/- R == can only use write once discs
+/- RW == can REwrite onto the disc

then there is DVD+/-RW DL which is dual layer disc (writeable)
