Anyone with back problems?

As many of you know, I broke my back in three places. L1, L2, L3. I had to have them fused together along with all of the metal. Im pretty modded out to say the least.

It happened Feb. 15 2005, racing motocross. But anyways, the pain is still there every single day. Its really not getting any better. I've been to the doctor and he says everything checks out. I've told by some people that its probally scar tissue. I go to the occasional massage therapy, feels great when I leave but a few hours later its more than likely the same pain. I work out every day as well. I was told this would probally cure the pain, but no luck.

Anyways, has anyone had anything like this happen to them? . . and what did you do to cure it? . . or at least help the pain?

My wife got injured 10 years ago riding her XR-200. She was furthering her experience by climbing hills and making jumps when she just gave it to much throttle, cleared the top and down side of a hill and wound up in a tree.

To make a long story short she wound up getting surgery for a ruptured disk in her neck. The number in her neck was a 3. She thought she was terminally ill with the symptoms she had. Tingling, numbness, paralysis, headaches, pain. Life has been much better since the surgery. This all happened in her early 40s. But arthritis has moved in but it's nothing compared to what it was like before.

A friend of mine at work has the same problem. He is doing therapy, taking meds and getting cortisone shots? He was told surgery should be the last option. It has been over a year for him and he said it's just a matter of time for surgery because he is not getting better. His also is the neck.

I also broke every bone in my right foot and ankle, needing major reconstruction. I had to go see Dr. Dean Cole, he ended up putting about 14 pins and clips along with a huge rod the length of my foot.

Suck it up and get used to it. You wanna play, you gotta pay. I broke my hand 13 years ago and still to this day, the nerves are damaged to the point that in the winter, the right side if my hand is about 5 to 8 degrees colder than the rest of my hand. Doesn't sound like a lot, but when its your hand and it feels like you have frost bite..it's weird. 10 years ago I broke my ankle. Both ankle bones ( the ***** on either side) sheered right off and my foot twisted around backwards. They put me back together with pins, plates and screws. I couldn't walk for 9 months and was out of work for 14 months. I was operated on 3 times by some of the best doctors around. One of my doctors is the bone doctor for the Philadelphia Eagles. My ankle hurts every day as does my back as a result of the fall. It will never get better so I've learned to live with / deal with it.

So get used to it. It's only gonna get worse as you get older.

Hmm, never heard of it so I just did a google search. I might look into it and see if there someone around here. It sounds like exactly what I need since my hip hurts from my fall as well.

Thanks for the info

Blew the L-3 disc last Novemeber: man, I don't want to do that again. My doctor [the 2nd one-first guy had me shcheduled for surgery the next day] wanted to try the Cortisone injections and that has done wonders. Supposedly you can do up to three a year, and so for, I have had just the one. After that, I did 3 weeks of physical therapy, strengthing up the core [was supposed to be 6 weeks, but I was the only goof coming from the gym to PT so they kicked my out-> a real shame, the Therapist was good looking! ]

Still bothers me some, but I lift, play volleyball twice a week, and can live with it where it is now. One thing that has helped: we bought a hot tub, and after volleyball or if I have pushed it at the gym, I soak for 30 minutes or so....

I also do a lot of ab work in the gym-[no six pack-I like to eat too much], but my Doctor said by keeping the core/ab/back muscles as strong as possible, it keeps some of the pressure off the nerves.

Thump, I feel for ya->I have broken 19 bones over the years, but this back injury was/is the worst! Hope something helps.

Woof
Bowser

PS: Here in the Chicago area, there is some kind of surgery free back procedure-> something to do with a traction like device. I have a buddy [Police officer who got hurt on duty] who did it and it seems to have helped him. I'll get a hold of him and try to find out some more info.

I just remember someone saying "did Brew cry" and someone getting a text message along the lines of "mud, scratch, dent"! I laugh whenever I think of it because I've been there before and know that feeling!!
