If i wanted to clean out my HD and format it. How or where do I get my OS back. I have an HP zt1130 the little sticker with the key is on the underside, but I don't have a disc to install from.

What do people do when they install a new HD or start over?

 

So you don't have the "reforamatting disk"? Give HP a call, they might send you one. Other than that, you'll be buying a new OS.

 

What version OS do you have?

Let's assume Windows XP Pro. Using that key you can take any Windows XP Pro disk and install it on your computer (some newer disks won't accept the older keys so you'll have to call the 1-800 number, which is no big deal, I've done it a couple of times). Maybe HP will send you a copy (probably charge you $15) or maybe you borrow it from someone you know, or maybe you "borrow" it from a friend on the internet.

 

Borrowing from an internet friend is not an option as, i live in the sticks and have slow dial up.

do a system recovery.. it will ask you to reformat as an option if you have windows xp you dont need to reinstall windows you got the key registration code just follow the steps and do what its asks..
