Bluetooth/wireless help

Okay, I'm trying to wirelessly sync my Dell Axim handheld to my Latitude laptop, but I can't figure out how to enable Bluetooth on the laptop. There's a little icon for it by the power button, and it's got standard Wi-fi, but I haven't been able to figure out how to enable either...I can enable 'em on my Axim, but no go on the PC. Do I need some software or something to make this thing wirelessly sync?

My blue tooth adapter came with an install cd... installed it and searched for devices and everything showed up.....

Did the laptop have built in bluetooth or are you uisng a USB adapter?

Should beable to open the bluetooth icon and do a search for available devices, then it will give you a list of functions you can perform wiht each device....

Some devices require special software to trasnfer data....

I'm assuming the laptop has built in Bluetooth - there's a Bluetooth emblem next to the Wi-Fi emblem.

what happens when you click on it? Try right click too and see if a list of options comes up.

No, when I say "Bluetooth emblem by the Wi-Fi emblem," I mean on the case of the PC itself, next to the power and volume buttons.

Edit - Apparently according to Dell, I need a Bluetooth adapter for this. Dammit, then WTF put a Bluetooth logo on the computer?

Sounds like a Dell Laptop...

Just because it has the BT symbol doesn't mean that it has integrated BT. Inspiron I assume?

My Inspirion 6400 has the BT light in there too... right next to the WiFi one... no BT in mine.

I think it's a generic platform (case)... if you had it, you'd have a Bluetooth Places or Bluetooth Configuration in Control Panel. Also, check the Device Manager in Win XP to see if you have a Bluetooth Controller in there...

My Insperion 9300 has the same problem. It has the symbol, but like Rockpick says no bluetooth in control panel. I went to best buy and got the bluetooth usb thingy for $30 dollars. I spent like a day on dell sight trying to figure out why it wouldn't work.

My Inspiron 6000 is in the same boat... must be a generic case. I see tons of people with these laptops.

Called a Bluetooth Dongle...

Very effective little device to add BT capabilities to your machine with one simple plug in device (USB 2.0 recommended).

Well dammit. I got my hopes all up for wireless Bluetooth synching and using a Bluetooth mouse. I don't really want to have one of those thingies hanging off the USB port; I already use a cordless mouse, and I've come close a couple times to breaking a USB port by tweaking the dongle hanging out of it.

And I can't imagine connecting and disconnecting a USB port elevenity times a day is beneficial to it's long term health.

Back to the drawing board.

Doesn't the Axim have Wifi? Just use that instead of BT. Doesnt help for a mouse, though.
