No kidding. I live, at most, a mile from Hertel.
In fact, I'll be heading over to Sterling Place Tavern in 2 hours. Stop by if you want a great burger and some very good beers.

(October 12, 2006) - - There is something extremely unusual for this time of year - a lake effect snow warning. The snow has been flying since mid-afternoon. Ellen Maxwell has a look at what's been happening.
It's been a very bizarre weather day to say the least; from a cool rainy morning to this.
Many Western New Yorkers were caught off guard by the early snowfall, coming in with thunder and lightning.
The system blew in across Lake Erie early Thursday afternoon. Before long, cars, grass and street signs were starting to get coated.
Many workers in the City of Buffalo weren't expecting to need snow brushes and gloves for the ride home Thursday night.
But, Western New Yorkers know in this area, we should expect anything and everything when it comes to the weather.
Buffalo resident Todd Griffin said, "...a little surprised, a little shocked - I thought it was supposed to come in tomorrow, but it's Western New York, we're used to it. It can come at any time, and actually it looks kinda pretty out here."
Buffalo resident Beverly Johnson said, "I'm hoping we'll get some heat in our apartment, 'cause we don't have any. Otherwise, I'll buy heavy clothing."
Buffalo resident Rob Zolder said, "I'm real surprised. I didn't expect it."

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY
648 PM EDT THU OCT 12 2006
...HEAVY WET SNOW TO CAUSE WIDESPREAD TREE DAMAGE AND BRING DOWN
POWER LINES TONIGHT...
.A WESTERLY FLOW OF UNSEASONABLY COLD AIR CIRCULATING AROUND A
VERY INTENSE STORM UP OVER LAKE SUPERIOR WILL CONTINUE TO POUR
INTO WESTERN NEW YORK TONIGHT. THIS COLD AIR CROSSING THE 60
DEGREE WATERS OF LAKE ERIE WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE BANDS OF
INTENSE LAKE EFFECT PRECIPITATION.
HEAVY WET SNOW WILL OCCASIONALLY MIX WITH SLEET THIS EVENING AND
TONIGHT. MOST OF THIS AREA COULD EASILY SEE 3 INCHES OF HEAVY WET

QUESTION. THE MAIN IMPACT FROM THIS SNOWFALL WILL BE TO BRING DOWN
TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES. AREA ROADS WILL BE SLUSHY...BUT THE

ON ROADWAYS.
HEAVY SNOW IN THE BUFFALO METRO AREA THIS EARLY IS
UNPRECEDENTED...AND UNIQUE CONDITIONS MUST EXIST. THERE STILL IS
SOME DOUBT AS TO THE SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION AS THE GROUND AND LAKE
ARE VERY WARM.
CONDITIONS SHOULD IMPROVE QUICKLY FRIDAY MORNING AS THE LAKE
EFFECT ACTIVITY MOVES EVEN FURTHER NORTH AND BECOMES MAINLY RAIN
ONCE AGAIN.
