Football Players: Offense or Defense (Preference)

He said he's always had a thing about being in charge!

I liked playing MLB more than any other position on Defense because it allowed me to see the play develop, and not have to fight-off a lineman (all the time) to make the tackle. Plus, I didn't have the footspeed to play outside LB, which is a must-have if you find yourself on the wide side of the field, especially if the DE loses containment.

I never had to play D in school, so I loved playing OT. Knowing exactly who I was to crush, and how hard I was going to hit them was very fun. However, DT or DE would have been my position of choice had I played D; leveling a QB is simply a joy I didn't have. How fun it would have been to come from a guy's blindside and unleash 325 lbs. of fury into him!

Dayum; you were 325 in High School? I was 250, at my largest, in high school... 330 now, well, maybe 320- been gyming pretty good for the last 8 - 10 weeks.

LOL, in little league, maybe...

A friend of mine, son plays for a youth team in Plano. This was 3-4 years ago, and the kid was only 11, yet stood 5'9", and weighed 230 lbs. He's 15 now; I haven't seen him in 4 years, but I doubt he's any smaller. He'll be suiting up for Plano East one day. Needless to say, he was crushing his opponents, and there was another boy on his team of nearly equal size.
They crushed everyone, until they got to the play offs, and played a team where the whole line was their size... These kids were still 5th & 6th graders.
In HS, 300 lbs is about average. Southlake Carrol has a roster where I've heard they are "under estimating" the weight of some players... It was the opposite when I was in high school, where in my Sr. year, I was listed at 6'4", 275 lbs., when I was all of 6'0" and 250 lbs.
I'm big enough to play offense in the NFL now, I just don't think my body is up for the beating it would need. Besides, if I got back into playing shape, I'd be down to 265-270, which is too LITA to play on the line in the pro's... You know, unless you're Michael Strahan or Jevon Kearse, with their kind of speed & power...
Then again, Jevon hasn't been much of a factor in 4 years, due to injuries.

My senior year, our starting line averaged, AVERAGED 305. And I wasn't even on it. There were 4 out of 5 of those guys that went D-1 and started almost immediately. I loved the contact, but those guys were definitely a lot better than me. They still say to this day that I helped them with the mental part of the game more than I know.
I loved football in high school and we had a small school as well so you usually played both offense and defense. I played wide receiver and cornerback (starter both positions) I liked them both and it would have been hard to just pick one or the other…
Usually if we were creaming another team second string would play so we would get a break but it didn’t happen often that we were creaming another team…

First we get risqué pictures of men in spandex.... next we get a post from Burt talking about creaming.
Oh man... I think I'm going to log off and try to think clean / sane / wholesome thoughts...

My preference would be O as long as I was the RB. I never have played organized football because as am a bigger kid (but I can run fairly fast) and I always knew I would be stuck on the o-line or DT. I wouldn't have wanted to play either one. I love playing RB but when we have games we only play like 3 on 3 so we don't use a RB we use 2 WR.
