The term cold in Texas is a bit of a stretch since the water comes from the tap at over 75 degrees

Most places estimate water cost for comparison at $4 per thousand gallons - = 4 pennies for 10 gallons. so saving a bundle by getting a washer that uses 10 gallons less per load is going to take a while .. You MAY save MORE on not having to HEAT that water to 150.

Here is interesting study on heats effect in killing germs on bedpans ...
Might be of interest to you
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/pag...geindex=3#page

They found that 80+ degrees C was minimum for good disinfection ( 175 degrees F )
The sanitary cycle on these machines, if they have a water heater, is also useful for people who are on septic, and cannot use bleach, or simply chose not to use bleach for enviromental reasons.

Really? Perhaps you can elaborate on that? Whirlpool did NOT have any service/mechanical issues with the launch of Duet, so I don't expect any fact-based response.

A lot of 1's and 5's...

http://www.epinions.com/Whirlpool_3_..._~1/pa_~1#list

I guess that explains the 3-star ranking. I know 51 units is not a lot to go by for a full scale analysis...

But, if Neilsen can use 1,800 boxes (According to a Media Class I took, 9,000 according to the internet) to guage the viewing habits of nearly 300,000,000 Americans in 110,000,000 homes; I guess 51 is a decent sampling, since most American's will opt for the $299 Frigidaire Washer, and the $259 Frigidaire Dryer, rather than spend a load on a front loader.

If my washer had broke 2 months ago, I know for a fact I woudl have gotten the LG front load set. But, man- whirlpool has a new top loader called the Cabrio... It's a 4.5 Cu. ft. washer (The largest drum I've ever seen). As much as I respect LG, the thought of doing 2 loads of clothes at one time, is appealing. But, it's brand new on the market, so I'll have to wait until it's been out long enough to see it's reliability ranking.

Actually, ours is a bit less political...inkeeping with the Canadian ways...here's a little blurb I found. Bottom line for us....another long weekend, and that's a good thing.

In Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. Unlike the American tradition of remembering Pilgrims and settling in the New World, Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest. The harvest season falls earlier in Canada compared to the United States due to the simple fact that Canada is further north.

I'll tell you what, that Whirlpool Cabrio looks and sounds like a very hot machine. They had some real bad history with the Calypso, but everything I have read & seen, suggests this Cabrio machine is top notch.

Huge capacity, gentle wash, energy efficient, easy to load & unload, and very easy to operate....blah blah blah. I'm sure there are many people out there who want the benefits of a front-load washer/dryer, but prefer the top load configuration....that one looks like a winner.

I like large capicity.....

If I could fit industrial machines in my house, like the ones that the jean manufacturer used that I use to work at.... "500 pairs of jeans at once".... I'd do it in a heart beat.

After grandpa died, I got out of the repair business, I was only doing it to help him so he could keep doing it after his strokes. I was his chaufer and hands. Since he couldn;t drive or get his hands to do what he needed like he needed them to do to work on them. Anyway I got out which meant I got rid of all the parts and machines.... About a year later... transmission went out on the washer that I had. Grandpa had always just gave us used Machines that he rebuilt....

I bought new Kenmore Elite series set, king size, large capicity. I can do a king size bed comforter, no problem.
I choose them becasue I know that I can litterally tear them down and repair almost anything with not much more than a screw driver and a pair of pliers. Wife liked the wash settings they offered, I also like the agitator design.
4 years, 0 maintencne, 0 troubles.... I've already got my money out of them at 3-4 loads a day for the last 4 years... if they died today I'd probably go get another set just like them.

I think you would be more likely to recoup your extra dollars spent on a front-loader by the amount of money you will save on enery a lot quicker then water as a result of the front-loaders doing a far-superior job of drying your clothes during the spin cycle which will cause you to spend half the amount of time drying your clothes.

OK . . . that's about the funniest thing I've read all week.

ETA: By the way, speaking of reading funny stuff, I just started David Rakoff's "Don't Get Too Comfortable: The Indignities of Coach Class, The Torments of Low Thread Count, The Never- Ending Quest for Artisanal Olive Oil, and Other First World Problems "

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I highly recommend it.

And now, back to y'all debating the pros and cons of home appliances.

I just don't get it.
Mountaineer buys a washing machine and his thread gets 75 posts.

My much more serious thread about Belly-button lint, only got 12 views and 3 replies.
And two of those were Lovetrucks wanting me to post pics.
