Makes you wonder as the old name website doesn't even look like it is complete.
Not saying it isn't good stuff, but?

Lets just say you get what you pay for. I bought an LCD a few months ago and decided to get an off brand to save a few bucks..I mean how bad could it be?? Pshhh, it was absolute crap. All the HD channels or the best cables in the world wouldnt help it. I took it back, spent another $300 on a Sony and couldn't be happier.
Thats just my experience with a different brand than what you are looking at. I've never seen the Protron in person, so I can't comment on the quality.

Bose is a good example of a middle of the road product that markets itself as the premier home theater system.
If you are looking for a decent LDC or plasma screen tv, look at the Vizio brand. They are sold at Sams Club and Costco. Be sure to buy at a store that has a good return policy and be sure to make sure everything works on the tv when you bring it home. If for any reason you are not satisfied with the tv, do as Brew did and exchange it for one you think you will like more.

Years ago there was a manufacturer of high end CRT sets, very expensive and they were excellent. The name of the company was Proton. I had their 35" CRT back in the day (maybe 12 years or so ago, and back then it cost close to 4 grand). They sort of disappeared from the planet some years back. While they were gone, a Chinese company started making cheap tvs and they used the name Protron (note the second "r"). They made cheap crap.
Recently, Proton reentered the display market. They have introduced two LCD displays (a 42" and 47") which retail for 2,500 and 4,000 dollars. They also were in litigation against Protron (and won) for misleading use of a similar name. This is why "Protron" are changing their name.
The Protron stuff is crap, and it is NOT Proton. Do not be misled.
As mentioned above, you get what you pay for.
Also, although Proton's CRT sets were the best made, I can not speak for their new lcd stuff. Back in the old tube set days, Proton (a small company out here in Orange County CA) made a handful of models of CRT sets. They never marketed much and sold to the small videophile crowd. Their tubes were manufactured by Panasonic to Proton's proprietary specs. The coating on the tube was Proton's own design. The picture was nothing short of amazing, the blacks were the cleanest I had ever seen. Even though they are "back", I have no idea if it's really the same guys from the old company. If it is, then I have no doubt their lcds will be awesome.
However, just be aware that Protron is not Proton. I'd stay away.

I bought a Sony 36XBR800 crt about two and a half years ago, It really is a fantastic set, My only complaint is that it weighs about 250 lds. I'll need a moving crew to get it out if it ever goes south on me.
