Dems vote against requiring photo ID to vote

http://www.washingtontimes.com/natio...3316-5086r.htm

" The Federal Election Integrity Act was approved on a nearly party-line 228-196 vote. Republicans backed the bill 224-3, with three nonvoters; Democrats opposed it 192-4, with five nonvoters. They were joined in opposition by the House's one independent member."

" The so-called "Voter ID" bill, aimed at stamping out voter fraud, would require voters in federal elections to provide picture identification by 2008 and provide proof of U.S. citizenship by 2010. It was among the recommendations made last year by the bipartisan Commission on Federal Election Reform, headed by former President Jimmy Carter, a Democrat, and former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, a Republican."

That would have kept LBJ from getting elected to the Senate when all those dead people voted for him.

I'd love to hear those Dems reasons as to why they feel ID'ing people during federal (read: very large/important) elections is a bad idea. I'm sure they'd use the excuse of "it would be a voter tax" and "harm the poor". Well, damnit, if you can't afford to get a state-issued ID, then is voting your top priority anyway? Anyway that voter fraud can be stopped, I'm all for.

Taking this one step further, I think all electronic machines should be done away with. They invite too many possibilities for tampering. We should go to a ScanTron-type system (fill-in the circle with a pen/pencil). That way, there's a paper trail.

Showing proper ID at the time you vote is a more than reasonable requirement to maintain some semblance of credibility on the front end of the voting process.

While I don't agree with the Republicans on all issues, the Democrats consistently fall on the "wrong" side of issues like this. It is their support of such ludicrous positions that makes it improbable that I could ever vote for them in a major election for fear that I would unwittingly lend support to their leadership on issues like this.

Well said. They probably voted that way just because repulicans voted to do it. I hate partisan politics.

The Dems had a very valid reason for voting that way.

The are afraid that their "constituents" will be intimidated by having to photo show ID. All the illegals and convicts won't be able to vote for them.

Kobi, you are hallucinating again. It ain't going to happen. Politician Integrity is an oxymoron.

As far as the ID.
Yes I do think that you should be required to have some kind of picture ID that shows you are eligible to vote.
Wouldn't have to prove you are a citizen each time you vote, but just when you get a voter registration card. One that has a picture ID on it.

Democrats want to receive more votes and don’t care whether or not they were cast legally. It’s that simple!

NOPE, you should have to have an ID and PROVE you are a citizen. Failure to prove your a citizen when voting should be an automatic 90 day jail term followed by dropping your *** off at the border...

If people had to show ID how would the republicans "steal" the election? Again.

Wonder if we could ever pass a Federal Politician Integrity Act?

Imagine the possibilities . . .
How would we go about doing that? By getting rid of the wraskley republicans and filling all the vacancies with democrats? Go Ned, go!

If you read it again, that is what I said. Prove you are a citizen when you register to vote. It can show you are a citizen on a photo ID voter registration card.

Hmm? Don't "illegals" enter this country through California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. Damn those Democratic states.
