Never actually removed an owl from a fireplace, I've just been around critters my entire life and have a few ideas on how to handle them.

I believe what he had there was an Eastern Screech Owl. They are a relatively small owl with a body about 8" and a wingspan of about 22". By comparison, a Great Horned Owl is 20", with a wingspan of 55".

The more that I looked at the pics, the more I realized that it was much smaller. So I stand corrected, it is a 'gray phase' Eastern Screech Owl I've seen many of the 'red phase' Screech Owls around here (eastern US), but not as many of the gray ones.

Thanks!
