Ford line workers

Do Ford line workers really make $64.00 per hour as reported on a news show today? No wonder my truck cost so much.

Not even close. Geesh, where do they get these numbers??

Just curious, what does everyone here make and then we can have a discussion as to whether everyone thinks you make too much money......or not.

While the average line worker might not see $64.00 per hour in their paycheck, I'll guarantee you that is easily what the hourly cost to Ford Motor Company is -- especially once you tally in healthcare and retirement costs!

Yep bennies are expensive, especially when the company has to pay all the cost of them. Most companies pay a percentage and the employee pays the rest. Even though my healthcare is paid mostly by my company, I end up paying $110 a month for it. Just for individual care. I know they are paying a good chunk, probably in the neighborhood of $3-400.

I know for Toyota line workers make $38 per hour + over time. I have a couple of friends who work at th Ford plant in Oakville and they make somewhere in the $30+ per hour range. That's in Canadian funds.

I was listening to the news yesterday and they were saying why Ford and GM like to keep plants here is cause they don;t have to pay high health care to their workers. Cause we get free health care to begin with. Nobody pays for doctor visits or if you in the hospital it's free. Plus the CDN dollar is a little cheaper the US dollar.

Pay...

I figure that is what they meant, but when you talk about your salary you don't include benefits, bonuses, etc in your salary. When an employer or future employer talks to you about pay they don't include these things. When you fill out a credit application you don't say I make $xx,xxx with my health care.

That 64/hour rate is a top paid assembler in the NE including benefits. They don't make anywhere near that as far as an actual paycheck.

I personally don't like to see people lose their jobs. It seems like there is alot of hatred being dished out to the people that work hard every day assembling the cars/trucks I love. If you don't have compassion towards your fellow man, what does that say about you? Keep in mind these people that are being bought out will soon be getting retrained/schooled with some of your tax dollars. Many of them will be taking new jobs with less pay which means less discretionary spending. Which in turn is bad for the economy and treasury. This isn't rocket science. I respect those people because I know I personally would not want to work a factory job. Good luck guys in the job search!
