I'm looking for recommendations for patch management.

Mostly Windows environment but ideally one that can handle Linux as well.

Thanks gents.

WSUS does fine for winders and office apps. You looking for full blown desktop management or a cheap way out?

We use shavlik netcheck pro.

Works great. I really like that the client machines can have patches pushed out to them with no agent required to be installed on the client.

EDIT: Just checked, no scanning or patching Linux, just Windows OS's & software and some 3rd party software....so sorry.

Linux isnt a must just a plus....so how fast do they get the MS patches available once MS releases them? Immediatly, 24 hours, longer, etc?

Hey Vader,

I'll tell you tomorrow which one I would suggest using. I would suggest using one that has good audit capabilites if you're in a public company.

One other thing, for servers....make sure you keep A COMPLETE AND ACCURATE LIST OF PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT SERVERS. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to come to a company and have them not have an accurate way of identifying production and development equipment. It's a major issue and a great way to lose your job.

EDIT: If Linux is a plus then I'd take a good look at Shavlik.

Duke
