surround sound recievers?

i have an older technics receiver that was only prologic....it has died and i am in over my head looking at new surround sound ones. looking to spend about 300.00 or so but can't seem to find one in that price range that also will do phono as well.....i thought i could just use another out on the rear....but it won't be grounded? thoughts anyone. also anyone ever get a refurbished unit and have it hold up?
what i have looked at:

sony STR DA1000es new 600.00 refurbished 270.00
Yamaha RXV459 tweeter.com for 270.00 (no phono)
plus a handfull at amazon.com......most seem to use phono that are 4-500.00...thanks....

I have a denon avr 1705 entry level home theater receiver. It works flawlessly. I was turned onto denon by a friend I worked with. His son did high end installs for sound idea here in the dfw area.

Here is a link to the unit I have.

I didn't pay full price for mine. Closer to $300 is what I paid. But that was last year too. I wasn't aware it didn't have phono input as I am not old enough for vinyl.

the good news is, i can buy a phono pre amp for about 20 bucks or so and i can then connect my turntable to any of the receivers as long as i have an opening in the back of the reciever for a left and right......

Onkyo has some great products with even better prices. I went with Denon for my home theatre, but I went higher quality setup that got pretty pricey heh.
