Motivation Deficit Disorder - Post Lunch Narcosis

I have a really bad case of MDD / PLN. Anyone else have those days where it feels like you can't get caught up on anything despite the fact that you've been working your butt off... finally, you just shut down because you feel like you're running in circles and accomplishing exactly jack?

BTW,

MDD = Motivation Deficit Disorder

PLN = Post-lunch Narcosis

Top that off with the fact that I was up past 1am working/watching my Dolphins loose last night and IN the office this morning at 7am already putting it to the grind...

It's been one of those weeks...

Sounds like you need a nice relaxing weekend of claying and polishing your baby.

Cheers.

Yeah... just in time for me to have to come into the office on Sat. to migrate a server and attempt to catch up on a couple of reports that are due out the middle of next week... my CAD guy is out until Tuesday so, I'll have a full day to accomplish that part...

If it's not one thing, it's another.

That pansy throw of the challenge flag
Allowing Batch to throw like that on you guys.

Yea, I got that feeling also. I'm depressed.

The fact is that on Monday, I will be on a jobsite for three years, doing geotech work (tunneling) instead of enviromental. I don't mind the work, but I always considered myself as an Environmental Geologist, not a Geotechnical one (but I do this work also). I will lose three years of enviromental experiance taking on this job. I have been with this company for 18 years, but it looks like they want to get out of the environmental business end, as we no longer have alot of environmental work.

This job would'nt be so bad, tunneling very interesting work, but the company now has new managers and they refuse to pay for my gas and tolls to the jobsite (about 110 miles round trip), I am currently arguing with them and this issue still remains unresolved as I begin work there. They have always paid them in the past, but like I said, there are new bosses at the helm. I stand to lose alot of money to the commute which to me is a decrease in salary that I cannot afford.

I may take a few days off next week to think about this situation more clearly.

Bummer srfd... I hate hearing about stuff like that. As a geologist that is doing what you wish you were doing, I can understand why you'd like to run away from the 'logging' that you're doing with the tunneling. I don't have much geotech experience -- thank goodness. I don't want to do it.

I truly enjoy standing behind a rig and logging holes or snagging grabs out of Probe sleeves but, doing it over and over and over and over every day would get VERY old VERY quickly... Actually, I've been behind a rig (typically a 7720 GeoProbe) at least once every week for the past two months. Now I'm up to my eyeballs in analytical that I have to summarize and prepare for submittal to clients/EPA (state). Feast or famine...

Thanks RP for the support concerning my problem. If things do not work out with the company, I will leave for a more local company (with local work) doing environmental. There is lots of work here in NJ (the labs and drilling companies are always booked). I have alot of experiance in enviromental, although not recently, but I feel confident I can find a new home if necessary.

It's ashame things have to come down to this, but I will do whatever is needed to support my family.

I know what you mean. It's very easy to get burned out.

I've been managing three multi-million dollar projects over the past two years. One located in Missouri (Pb remediation), one in Washington State (various metals remediation) and another that's starting in early Oct (Cd, Hex Cr, & Pb remediation). The stress load with those three projects alone has been enough to convince me to keep several lines in the water to see if I get a bite.

As I made public here on the forums back in August, I was looking into going to work with John Deere in Dubuque. I was actually offered an Environmental Engineer position with them but ended up decling due to family obligations and a few other personal reasons. The money was nice and the prestigue would've been huge but, at this moment in my career, it wasn't in the cards. More recently, I've been approached by another two companies -- one of which I know is a definite 'NO' -- where one is more in the 'maybe' category.

I still see myself in more of an environmental role within industry eventually -- that or a coordinator for mining related activities (permitting and such) but, I'm not sure I see myself as a consultant.

Hard to explain but, it's a gut feeling. I truly enjoy being around equipment -- be it dozers, drill rigs, etc -- but, if you want to do that within an environmental capacity, you're either logging COPIOUS amounts of hotel time or you're over environmental for a mine. There really aren't many other options.

Fortunately, two of the three large projects that are on my plate right now are mining-driven. One is directly for the largest mining company in the NW and the other is for a conglomeration of mining companies across the US that are all tied to the project in Missouri. Through one or two of them, I can see snaring something but, again, I'm faced with the relocation issue.

Damned if you do.... damned if you don't. Nothing's perfect. I need to hit the Powerball... that'll solve this problem (and present another plethora of them I suppose)...

Thanks but... consider it left.

On your way down you'd probably run over a dumpster causing a massive 16-car pile up which will lead to a forest fire which would cause an electrical pole to fall which would cause a brown-out which would cause people at the hospital on life support to die which would cause the doctors to have to leave their posh 18-hole Country Club games to report to the ER which would cause a massive rise in hospital costs which would cause my health insurance premiums to spike up which would cause me to have to divest one of my vehicles which would cause me to have to give up my moderator status here at f150online.com which would make it so that I couldn't snub you at any waking moment that I'd like... I'm not willing to give that up.
