hmm okay then. Looks like nobody is doing anything too exciting. I guess it's good to have a low key long weekend every now and then. I'm getting pretty excited about leaving for my NASCAR trip on Thursday!

There's a long weekend coming up? Somebody forgot to tell me. I'll be working Monday. Getting paid twice is better than being off anyway. IMO

Everybody enjoy your weekend!

I'll be cutting rice this weekend. Dad and my brother got the combine all up and ready to go. My brother has to leave to do some flying until Tuesday, so it looks like I'm the combine driver.

I used to pick up loads of rice in Stuttgart when I was driving OTR out of Shreveport, LA. Are you close by? That's the rice capital of the world, or close to it anyway.

Awww heck man I thought you were still driving a truck...my bad.

I'm about 100 miles north of Stuttgart. Rice takes lots of water to produce (as you probably know). They are running out of water down around Stuttgart. When I was buying rice I went down in that part of the world and they were having to drill like 8-900 feet to get to water. They said it can cost up to $100,000 to drill a well there. They've been growing rice there since the 1800's.

Rice has been grown around this part of the world since the 1950's or so. It seems like production is drifting northwards because of the water thing. Last winter there were about 10 different farmers around Stuttgart who had to quit farming.

Hopefully we won't get into that situation with the amount of rivers we have around. It gets tuffer and tuffer every year with the high fuel prices. I guess everybody is in the same boat though.

I would love to farm full time for a living, but with Dad and Bro doing it, its hard to come up with that much land and capital. Maybe someday.

100K to drill a well, wow. If i'm right 3valve, doesnt it only cost about 15K to put down a well around here? I'm glad we dont farm any rice or I would be working this weekend instead of dove hunting, BBQing, Fishing, and watching the HAWGS PLAY USC. WOOOOO PIG SOOOOIE
