Free and/or open source project management software?

Anyone out there use free or open source project management software they would recommend? I am looking for client software, not web-based, something akin to Microsoft Project or Primavera...though likely not as feature-rich. Any advice would be helpful. I've googled for such, but do not know what is good...

Hi Boss!

Haven't personally tried any of these, as we are completely tethered to MS Project and Open Plan Pro, but check some of these out:

http://www.download.com/Project-Mana...0.html?tag=dir

Some are free trials/$40+ to buy; others are completely free.

You probably should test-fly a couple to see if they suit your specific needs.

Hope this helps some ...

Cheers
Grog

I have been a engineering and construction planner/scheduler for ten years. Primavera and Microsoft Projects are the most dominate programs, followed by Open Plan and Artemis. As for free software there is none that I know of not to say that there are not some out there. But remember there is no such thing as a free lunch. Not to spam here but I do sell Primavera on the side. If all you want to create is a bar chart schedule then you could create it using excel by filling in the cells with a solid color and showing the activity names to the left hand side.

Free lunches?

My anti-spam server solution is open source and I'd say its the best on the market.

Zero out of pocket expense and no more time than normal invested to make it run...

alas I will stop here for I fear thread-jacking the boss's topic.

Vader, sorry about the misunderstanding. The spam comment was directed at myself, since I sell Primavera on the side and people would think that I was trying to make sell, which I am not. As for the free thing, if it does what the moderator wants then more power to you. But you would be amazed at companies, many of them large corporations, that run pirated or bootleg software. In ten years of working I have only seen these four above mentioned programs as well as schedules made with excel spreadsheets, drawn on graph paper and supervisors just saying they will finish by this date.
